There is a massive market for Tuna in the UK presently all imported. But we need a sustainable industry which not only targets sustainable Tuna supplies but also the mackerel and herring shoals they feed on. And that means control on commercial EU fishing boats especially the mega trawlers.

we must protect british fishing by patrolling our territorial waters any interlopers must lose there ships and face fines that will deter pirate fishermen from any country, we must do the same as pacific ocean islands closing open water holes

I know a guy who catches 7+ giant bluefin in every trip out of Donegal Bay. Problem is the Japanese commercial boats have sailed across the world to pillage these wonderful creatures

James Hines: Here in Canada our government has recently imposed heavy restrictions on commercial fishing for Atlantic Bluefin Tuna and that will help to increase the stocks over the European and Uk coastal waters which I would like to see as much as you do. However here in the province of British Columbia located on the Pacific west coast of Canada we have smaller species of Tuna such as Albacore, Skipjack, and Yellowfin, but the Albacore is most preferred. However, their number are well in abundant probably because the Pacific being a very large ocean. Anyway it's good to see the Bluefin making a comeback in U.K. waters.

Came across this whilst researching the UK and fishing in relation to Brexit, what fish we have in the UK and expanding my fish knowledge, which is honestly abysmal. This was really interesting. Thanks :)

There has always been Tuna on our western shores, what changes are the numbers. Catch and release should be up to the fisherman, size and weight limits yes. Our tuna come from the Med sea, and our numbers will depend on the fishermen there. If you want stocks to increase, then we must clean up our waters, starting with the rivers, pollution from rivers don't just pollute rivers it's the sea also, look at what is killing our Salmon and Sea Trout stocks, its not over fishing its pollution mainly from fish farms

Japanese boats are in Irish waters right now chasing the tuna. We've had massive shoals of mostly very small mackerel in Cornish waters for the past 4 years, not so many this year but the tuna have been chasing them and taking fish from our handlines (and the entire mackerel sets with them! :( ) for a couple of years now.

It's not the sports fishermen that overfish any stock.

What? You say "It's not the sports fishermen that overfish any stock" Come to think of it, you are right, it's not the sports fisherman. It's the commercial fishing fleets. They should carefully regulated.

Blue fins didnt stop running the North sea,they dwindled and the runs depended on herring and mackeral stocks,whitby every year catches Tuna many many fish caught in the 80s and rod reels boat hire for tuna was still available up till this point...think logically 1980s and 90s what was say a north sea blue fin tunny worth at say grimsby? never mind japanese prices.The largest Tunny's are i think late autum run where as summer fish are smaller,we get on average bigger tuna than say west coast of england..we have dogger land under the sea a joining point where we once joined europe.Great feeding ground under sea fossil moneky puzzle trees this is what whitby jet is.Me dad was a scarbrough lad knew hotel owner laughton brother of actor charles laughton.they were i think members,my grandad was a showman grandmother italian ice cream maker,so when the Tuna were getting landed by the rich elites me dad and his mate charlie always got a front seat view of the tuna and always were there with the fisherman lady wives butlers bentley etc im talking mitchel henri here not ch frisby....i used to have some fotos of mitchels tuna fish and others that were caught but sadly they now lost.........we had a pod of tuna summer gone two good honest fishermen sources told me when they seen them two seperate lots of lads who dont know each other.......

It is illegal to fish for bluefin tuna in UK waters, apart from licensed tagging.

Can't understand why we have catch and release yet Spain French boats can take them, we are out of the EU now so not bound by their quotas. Our politicians don't do enough for our fishermen.

Bluefin tuna are the most heavily quota’d fish in the planet. Each country has a specific amount it can catch and the French and Spanish boats have been harvesting these fish for decades. The stocks of tuna have recovered dramatically in the last 15 years and are now off the endangered list. The UK bow has a 39 tonne quota a small amount of which is now available to commercial fishers in a pilot fishery but so far not been getting around £8 -£10 a kilo dockside fir these fish because there is no developed market. We’re hoping that next year we will have a fully open recreational fishery..watch this space.

I don't believe in this catch and release nonsense, especially if there is some level of mortality as a result of it. If I have a license to go fishing which is required by law in some countries, I'm not fishing for sport or any kind of recreational purpose, I'm not fishing to sell for profit, I'm fishing for none other than the dinning table. And what's more, I'm not fussy as to the kind of fish either, I'll will cook and eat what ever is edible. And if it happens to be a very large fish, I'll either store some of it in the freezer or share with others.

And that my friend is why stocks are depleted, that attitude is the reason why it is like it is.
@unhooked25
@unhooked25 2 жыл бұрын
@@andrewshackleton3700 Nonsense that is not the reason why stocks are depleted it's because of commercial fishing or catching large numbers for sale, as I clearly indicated, you're trying to tell me someone who goes out and catches one or two for his dining table is the reason stocks are depleted? Don't give me that Bullshit! You'll never sell me on that one.

All this rubbish is just to line the pockets of government . Not every angler can afford to pay the very high boat prices they charge , so basically we are being told if we can't afford it we are not permitted to fish for them ,. Since when was fishing just for the rich and famous and to line government pockets
