It's been a while, but I remember that one being rather boring, personally, with its overly large, empty maps. I guess it wanted to one-up OoT, but... it focused on the wrong thing. Its lack of difficulty didn't help. You certainly don't have any of Mario 64's movement, either. Its 2D sidescrolling "sequel" is much more entertaining, IIRC. Though, it leans a bit much on the other side of the difficulty spectrum: its boss/castle stages were looooooooong so Game Overs were misery.
@retrauk2 жыл бұрын
@@VonFirflirch It didn't try to one-up OoT at all. It released a full year before OoT did. It did a 3D Zelda-like thing well before Zelda even did. It's not a perfect game or anything (lack of real difficulty, empty maps, basic movement.) But it has some good points too! (Creative bossfights, fantastic soundtrack, neat setpieces and dungeon design.)

Blue Fire captures something other rpg platformers try to do but often fail to and it's fitting you brought Hollow Knight up in the video because it also did it. Progression of Power Initially you start off weak with very basic abilities in both games. However as you explore both maps of both games, you unlock items and abilities that make it easier to traverse them. And if you are clever, you can even use the environments and in game mechanics to expand your area of exploration as you progress. And at the peak of your collection, you are practically a god compared to when you started your adventure, and you achieved this feat through exploration and grit.

What can I say? You give such a warm love to indie and hidden gem titles in every aspect of the presentation, be it from the sombre tones of a Glover tune, to the bombastic combat music of Rayman 3 (THREE specifically), and every time you compare a game to another, it's because it gives you something you know you love, not that it's copying something that something else does right. I noticed this in full force for Demon Turf, and Blue Fire is a perfect example of this exact same presentation and review style that you do. And this game looks gorgeous, and it's the studio's first title? Well hell, I love the folks who made Snake Pass, and they now work on SACKBOY, so humble beginnings look great. Fantastic review James. EDIT: Also, I just finished watching the Frogger review series again and saw the Toy Trials box in the background. You tease. XD
