Awesome fish, awesome country side also. Been catching monster brookies here in Cape Breton since April 1st, they're the most fun fish to catch, a 21 inch 4.5 pounder on a spinning rod took almost 20 minutes to reel in, what an awesome fight and also, brook/speckle trout are the best tasting fresh water fish around here. Awesome videos, keep up the great work.

I recently found your episodes and love them. I’m a novice fisherman and use spinning rods but will one day move into fly fishing. I’m from Sudbury Ontario and the fishing is amazing up north!

If I heard the fellow correctly they are stocking the lakes with brook trout and they are not wild fish that would typically be found in the rivers of Labrador that are wild stream bred trout that do compete with other sport fish but still grow to large sizes.
@newflyfisher5 жыл бұрын
That is true, they do a stocking programming in concert with Ministry of Natural Resources. There are resident fish in the area and lakes but the big ones are definitely the stocked fish. Usually 5-6 years old

Suggest pairing the remote sonar to the phone *before* dropping it in the water.

Beautiful lake, beautiful fish and you still can’t get away from your cell phone. To me this is really sad. The cell phone should have been left in your car when you got on the float plane. In today’s society cell phones seem to ruin family dinners and most other gatherings. Now remote brookie fishing. SAD

Why is it so hard to believe that Brookies would have crawfish in its belly ?
@newflyfisher4 жыл бұрын
I didn't know there were crayfish in the lake... would have brought a different fly box. Mark

Are you kidding me...10lb test leader to maybe catch a 10lb fish? If I was in that canoe I would be using 4lb test leader maybe 6. Admittedly never have fished for 10+ pound brookies, I don't know if they have overly sharp teeth that would warrant such heavy leader. Liking very much the video a quarter of the way through.
@nativetrout8 жыл бұрын
if you can use 10 lb and they dont shy away from it...why wouldnt you use 10 lb? especially if it's catch and release, get the fish in faster. you aren't a good angler for playing a fish you plan to release for a super long time just to brag to people about how you caught it on light test/gear. also, brook trout are char, and char do typically have sharper teeth than a true trout would
@niall4418 жыл бұрын
I have to kill these fish out hear in Alberta because they have driven out native fish. Yes brook trout are char and i have killed many 8 10lb ones.

The thick leader helps turn over streamers. You'd struggle comically with 4 pound test
