Love that you just created this channel. Lots of older videos out there so for someone thats looking into standing up a system, this is extremely valuable! Any chance that you could go through the cameras that you have set up? PC specs, networking configurations, POE switch options, VPN/pfsense config, etc? Keep up the good work! Also would love to support a Patreon if thats something you're considering.

@@learnblueiris Hey there, thank you for this channel, it's much needed. BI has changed quite a bit over the years and information on dos and donts, can and cants, as well. Accordingly information is conflicting, if available at all. I am thinking of topics like, is hardware acceleration still preferable (hence an Intel CPU), or is it obsolete. Does Deepstack need a dedicated GPU (or with which setup CPU wise, doesnt it need that). Since these machines will run 24/7, and power consumption is a factor, mini pcs like the Intel Nucs would be an interesting option. However even on this, there is conflicting information whether these are powerful enough, or reliable enough for running BI continously. Finally, you have touched on some options for connecting BI to the web. One question for me would be, would it be more secure and even possible, to just have out traffic from BI, either constantly or even triggered, with no need for any vpns, tunnels, open ports and so on. I think the security aspect is the most important issue, and so far neither classic vpn nor zerotier has quite convinced me.

Thanks, great video using the most current version, now I have a better understanding of the layout. Purchased mine 3 weeks ago and been racking my brains a bit. Been watching 2yr + old video's that's not the greatest help, especially when they rush through it like you know it. Thanks for keeping it slow. Supposedly Blue iris is able to use external devices for triggers such as home automation systems , but I don't see anything in the menu, unless I'm just blind. Looking forward to more videos from you. Thanks

Is their any option to set a camera up to record continuous at a slow 2 frames second then upon detect motion trigger or on alert have the camera increase recording frame rate 16 frames a second for example. My thought is this would minimize recording bits and yet allow the system to have higher video recording rate upon detection, alert or AI condition. One I though I can accomplish this is to clone a camera x and set it to record at high resolution main stream at a slow 2 frames a second and mean while in parallel have then the 2nd clone x camera trigger to record at higher camera frame rate. I would expect this second clone camera would run on the sub stream to generate the motion/AI/alert trigger. My thought is this arrangement would allow me to not missing anything in the scene in the event the BI trigger or alert method fail to capture scene change. Thoughts any one.

You can set BI to record the sub-stream but when motion is detected switch over to recording the main stream then switch back to sub-stream when motion stops.

Thank You for your help in this matter.

Blue Iris will run on a micro form factor computer. I have Blue Iris installed on a Dell MFF (Micro Form Factor) computer with an i5 (10500T), 16gb DDR4, 1TB NVME SSD (OS., databases), and a 4TB SATA SSD (BlueIris recordings). I am running 17 REOLINK 5MP POE IP Cameras installed across four locations (main office and three satellite offices) that are connected through an SSL VPN. Even with 17 cameras, CPU usage rarely exceeds 50%.
@cwjuhl12 күн бұрын
I believe Blue Iris is a Windows only program, so it will not run on a Mac Mini. A Dell Optiplex MFF (or HP or Lenovo equivalent) is about the same size as a Mac Mini and considerably less expensive, especially a refurbished 8th-10th gen.

Great video, super helpful in tuning our 22-camera BI system! We are a boutique hotel with a small lot in a high demand area. We just enabled License plate detection. How might you recommend setting up cameras for license plate detection of legally parked cars? We hope to not keep a white list, but rather a black list of illegally parked neighborhood cars. My instinct is that our security personnel (who already sweep the parking lot a few times a night with an iPad in hand) manually scan the lot with a camera. Any suggestions for a camera or a better workflow?

To my favorite Blue Iris Guru (Yes, shameless butt-kissing on my part :) I have a question that so many users would like to find an answer to. I am ashamed to admit that after so many years of using B.I. and managing a rather complex system of 16 cameras I still manage to 'miss the action' more often than I would like to admit. While I know that the simple answer is to record 24/7 I can only do this practically on just 2 of my cameras. On the rest I need to rely on motion activation. I simply cannot seem to find the right combination of Make Time, Break Time, Re-trigger, etc. that will not still leave gapping holes in my coverage. For example: Let's say that I would like to have my camera record for 60 seconds after a trigger and then stop (unless it is re-triggered during those 60 seconds) in which case it will continue to record until the action stops. I seem to be able to do this alright. BUT, after it stops I need to know that it will begin to record again IMMEDIATELY upon the next trigger and basically do the same thing that it did before. It seems that the 'second time around never' comes around fast enough and I miss that next event. As I read in someone's post with the this same question: "The UPS guy walks up the driveway and gets recorded doing so. As he goes around to the back door and out of sight the recording stops. When he then returns down the same path (all of which is set for motion trigger) he is not recorded at all". I would be so grateful if you or someone here could shed some light on this for those of us who haven't been able to get to the bottom of this. Thanks for all of the great videos you make. You have helped me out a lot.

Hey man, please add timestamps to your video description, as this will also categorize your video into sections....not particularly interested in searching through an hour of footage.
@Mrdsmith500 Жыл бұрын
It would have been a lot more helpful if you included timestamps in the description. Event highlight does not work at all. Finally, after spending a ton of time searching for schedules in your video, I find it. And as with all BI videos, it was no help at all. I still can not make a global schedule work where I feel confident I understand it and it is going to work. It seems to me that no one understands BI schedules, or how to draw them, so they make a video and gloss over it. Look anywhere, any video, even BI support video, and they are all awful at detailing how to properly setup, up and understand scheduling.

I only say this because you said you were gonna walk through everything - why don't you start with how to add the camera so that the pan tilt and zoom works. Or maybe discuss why triggering isn't working. With this is a demo version, I'm using those are the features I need to know if they work or not. If they're not compatible with my camera, then your software does me no good. And unless I pay Blue Iris more money besides the $90 for the software, I get NO SUPPORT. OR very little.
