In 2015 Tanya and Vince Duenas’ son Hunter was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) at age 2. They were not only shocked by their son’s diagnosis, but horrified to find that Guam’s services for ASD were non-existent. In 2016, Tanya and Vince co-founded the HunterSpeaks Autism Organization, a nonprofit aimed at bringing ABA therapy to Guam. The HunterSpeaks Autism Organization’s mission is to improve the standard of care for autism treatment on Guam, so that children affected by the disorder may receive the appropriate intervention they need and rightfully deserve.
The HunterSpeaks Autism Organization in collaboration with Sasa Productions has produced this short documentary “Blue Island” highlighting the arduous journey of bringing Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) therapy to Guam to assist the countless children suffering from ASD.
