Usually, how I play my G is: 1st finger on the fifth string, second fret; 2nd finger on the sixth string, third fret; 3rd finger on the 1st string, third fret. There in a variation including all of the notes above AND: 4th finger on the 2nd string, third fret. They both sound the same but if you're looking for more of an "aesthetic" high sound, include the last note. Also, it's been a while since you posted this comment. Hope you figured it out!
