BLUE MONDAY (A Tribute To New Wave)
Live at Southport Hall
July 6, 2024
Jefferson, LA.
These are some live clips and still I shot of the show. A little distorted but you get the drift. This was a great trip down memory lane of the music from the early 1980's when MTV first came to town. We were in Middle School and coming of age headed to high school in the burbs of New Orleans. We were rockers / raludes / pitts / say bra - hey bras / metalheads etc from Da Parish in Chalmette that went to the public schools that dated the gals from the catholic schools like Holy Angels and Cabrini. We were the tight Levi Jeans, white tube socks, white sneakers, Ozzy shirt wearing, Marlboro red danglin', bandanas, Camaro driving, hanging out at Parc Chenier, The Wall In Arabi, Versailles or Val Reiss parks, crawfish festival coke mirrors on your wall, roach clips with feathers, aviator sunglass wearing dudes of Chalmette. So, when we started dating these gals we were introduced to bands like Modern English, The Cure and INXS. We carried our music and boom boxes everywhere or if you were lucky you had a walkman and we blasted our shit LOUD!! But out of courtesy to our gals we'd pop out our cassette of Metallica "Ride The Lightening" or Slayer "Hell Awaits" and let them bring their music. In public, we as Metalheads, were trained to disregard, dismiss and just denounce this stuff, but behind closed doors with your gal, you actually liked it! And I still Do!!
This stuff also reminds me of my friend Sean Ward, who we lost in 2007. He was an incredible connoisseur and an ambassador of music and LOVED turning people on to bands, artists and different genres. He'd go from listening to the EXHORDER 1987 Demo, straight to THE SMITHS or THE CURE, the to THE MISFITS, the STEVE MILLER BAND, then later on to MORCHEEBA and AIR without batting an eye. He opened up an entire new way of looking at music for me during my impressionable years. For that and our friendship, I will always be thankful that our paths crossed, and we became best friends. Incredible crazy times!! His house was the hub where the action was, and nicknamed "CLUB WARD", and we were all affectionally known as "The Riverland Gang" by one and all. Sean and the music brought us all together!! I think he would have loved seeing his favorite singer, Kyle Thomas, tackling THE SMITHS "How Soon Is Now?" tonight that's for sure.
I also got to run into a Riverland Gang Alumni, Marco who was there with his son to take a trip down memory lane as well. And always great to see our Metalhead / Nola Underground Friends out and about too and all of us were singing along with a care in the world! It was a fun show!! It was great to see them!! This band was tight, great players and great dudes!! Go check them out!!
Enjoy!
