It seems each week we are receiving a new Blue Origin update from the company as they get closer to the maiden flight of New Glenn. Usually, they keep most information to themselves, however with the launch approaching, full-scale preparations tend to be much harder to hide and involve massive stages and infrastructure.
Just yesterday we got new images showcasing the structural New Glenn test article moved and raised vertically on the company’s launch site. This comes in addition to all the recent progress with the actual flight hardware and mating of the first and second stages. As of right now, Blue Origin is still planning to launch New Glenn for the first time late this year on a mission to Mars. Here I will go more in-depth into the recent test, its purpose, what it means for the future launch, and more.

@@TheEvilmooseofdoom Serious development on New Glenn started around 2015/2016, two to three years earlier than Starship (which started around 2018 after the work on Falcon Heavy was completed), with a smaller team, partially busy on New Shepard. It really doesn't matter. If they don't do it with IFT-3, they'll do it with 4, 5 or 6. It'll take some time before they land anything anyway, and even more time to refurbish and re-fly. The main competition now is to see which company can manage to land an orbital first stage next, and if they can do it before SpaceX achieves full reusability. It'll either be Blue Origin, Rocket lab or some Chinese company for sure.@@michaeldeierhoi4096

B.O.'s New Glen better do its job on its "first time go." It's been how long, and even ULA's Centaur that used BE-4's was a successful flight (Besides the Moon landing." There is only so much you can talk about when it comes to this arrogant rocket. (see the trend). I truly think they are to worried that it will not perform to its standards, and Jeff really needs to see a shrink. We all do. It's in the F9 class, and has not done anything except look pretty. I still hold true to the fact that they used ULA as a test for its BE-4 engines, witch is very inconsiderate. They have to try , and try soon. No one with respect to space flight is going to laugh if it doesn't succeed. Look at X, how may times did they fail before. hey know how to build a Rocket. They just want perfection at the same time. They are also getting help from X, and NASA for development. But stubbornness only last for so long. This is either a lack of funds, or insecurity. Just put the darn rocket up. I will succeed! Look at ULA. The BE-4's worked phenomenally, and had no issues. "Perfection cannot be gained on the first try." Its time for it to sit there or go. Sheppard is great, but Glenn is viable. There are less factors than what we are seeing. Its coming, and the anticipation is growing. I hope you use some of this content in your next episode about boring origin. Light the damn candle already. Thanks for a great episode. -- NOM

By the way Blue Origin will launch when they are ready. Getting into orbit is hard enough, but sending the first mission to Mars is another level of difficulty especially for the maiden flight. If they aren't ready by the end of the first quarter that payload will be delayed a couple years. In which case another payload would probably be substituted. They can take good comfort in the performance of the Be-4 on Vulcan's maiden launch.

"I truly think they are to worried that it will not perform to its standards"... I truly think they don't worry at all and progress carefully and professionally. They will launch when ready. "There is only so much you can talk about when it comes to this arrogant rocket"... It's a rocket. An inanimate object which cannot display any human behavioral characteristics. "Look at X, how may times did they fail before"... Easy to waive a hand at that when most of the money you burn comes from subsidies and private investors (about 85+ different entities). Not to mention the HLS contract... "They are also getting help from X, and NASA for development"... SpaceX working with BO on New Glenn? That would be a nice brotherly collaboration, but that's not the case. They are getting help from NASA (just like SpaceX is) but when it comes to funding, BO relies only on Amazon and how much stock Bezos sells to inject in it (except for the freshly awarded Artemis contract and the Space Force support).
