Prussian is definitely warm. Think about what color purple it would make if you mixed them with red, or what color green or would make to mix with permanent green. If it would make a warm purple or a dull purple, it was a warm blue.

I organize my pastels by warm and cool. I've decided "warm" blues lean purple or green, "cool" blues are my true blues.

Never understood the idea of warm vs cold blues. whether it deviates toward red or yellow it's still getting "warmer"
@alicethemadrabbit1842Күн бұрын
That's how I see it. My true blues are what I call cool.

since all blues make decent greens, I define the warmth of a blue by whether it leans yellow or pink. I.e cold blues make good purples and warm blues would turn into brown instead

This is how I see it as well!

As that all blues are inherently a "cool" colour, I classify ones leaning more to purple as "cooler" and ones leaning yellow as "warmer".

I think any hue can be warm or cool. It’s not an absolute measurement; it’s a question of relationship. You can have any two yellows: one will be warmer, the other will be cooler, depending on which tends more toward red-orange or toward blue-green.

Doesn't phthalo blue come in green shade and red shade? Which one did you use?

Lauryn says “The ultramarine here is red shade. Tbh I’d never even heard of ultramarine green, in Pantone, (18-5338 TCX) the ultramarine green is really obviously green.”

@artprof no pthalo- that's the one with the green and red editions!
@ldsmusician3 күн бұрын
@artprof ah, I meant the phthalo, not the ultramarine, but thank you. :)

Solids, gradients, transparents and the light play, the warm light to incandescent light etc factors matters, even infrared and UV index matters.

i see the greener blues as warm and redder ones as cold

I don’t tend to think much about cook and warm but I love Prussian and found this very interesting.

My Prussian is warm. I agree with you about the rest.

I always saw lemon yellow as my warm homing pigeon and things closer to purples as my cools rather than green and red. Now I’m confused lol.

This feels like you're looking at desaturations as cool. Doesn't actually feel cold/warm to me
@Aaron114112 күн бұрын
I was thinking the exact opposite really. But could you go into examples of why it's important maybe?

Prussian Blue I've always felt like it was cool

And the blues' puzzle has just become even a bigger mystery for me: Because IF the green with more yellow in it is considered a warmer one than the green being closer to blue the blue that is closer to the green, BUT to the yellowish green, would make a warmer blue than a... permanent blue? And what about the warm yellows and the cool yellows, like naples and zink? Is this just about the red or the blue in yellow? If it is, would we have to measure the amount of red in the blue (with I don't know what device;)? As the yellowish one made of the warm yellow green would still contain a slite amount of red (?) 😮😃🫨

I mean, it's not really "personal". You can measure the hue angle.

Green has nothing to do with cold. It’s blue + yellow, blue = cold and yellow = light/warm.

The only difference I feel ultramarine is a warm blue.

😂 Y'all lucky I haven't yet set my 2 cents. Because actually my "Roots" collection I was mixing phalo blue, cobalt blue, manganise and ultra marine for my vibration of my vision so it's 🧊🔥😮
