The chance of new MMORPGs succeeding these days is so low it's not surprising they get canceled. Amazon Games saw Blue Protocol in late 2022 and said, "Yes, this is a game we want to put our name on, and we expect it to be successful with Western audiences when we release it in late 2023." The fact that the game failed so dramatically in its native region, such that it is now canceled less than 2 years later, shows how bad Amazon's judgement was when signing the game in the first place. It's more evidence of a systemic problem within their team, regarding their ability to identify what players want & what makes a good game, and also the amount of time & effort it takes to actually deliver a good product.
@jayoddity5 ай бұрын
To be clear. Amazon isn't really at fault for Blue Protocol dying, that is very likely Bandai Namo. The Amazon fail is about the acting statement and picking duff mmos.

You should have used the Wayback Machine to show Amazon's original Press Release about publishing the game (the live-version of the article has already been deleted by AGS). It would have made it clearer that it was Amazon's judgment that was in question. They described the game back then as, “Bandai Namco Online has created a world of the highest quality with a compelling story that will build community and immerse players in an action-packed adventure." Also, it was originally announced as a Q4 2023 release, which is funny to remember.

Hello Jay, I suspect you put your finger on the pulse of the main reason being financial. Why Bandai couldn't come to a satisfactory agreement with royalties and any other vertical retention fee structure with Amazon. Amazon is like a Walmart always squeezing dollars to the lowest common denominator. Bandai comes from a different work culture and perhaps wanted to make more in revenue with this deal than they were worth. Finally the reason Amazon gave is predominately a smoke screen because of players x,y,,z reason. Hardly ever the stated public reason is the main culprit.

This event, from the grand announcement of *Blue Protocol* to its ultimate cancellation, will echo through gaming history. It will become the benchmark for any game with a development saga like Bandai Namco's handling of it. This saga has become so monumental that it now serves as a chilling reminder of broken dreams in gaming, leaving me with a lasting impact akin to PTSD.
