They can't make a good MMO in general. Investors push developers to impossible feats. Most new mmo games are made for the mobile market because of the big number of players on a phone compared to console and pc gamers especially in the asian market. However by doing this their games won't ever reach their potential. MMO's are a concept to be played on a PC or very least a Console with many years of development and funds put into and well thought out features and story.

This is the result of terrible leadership and direction, imagine sitting on a gold-mine but no one knows how to extract the goods inside. FF14 is always that example that comes to mind, when something has potential and how switching up who is at the head of the wheel can changes things to an insane degree. If it had launched, even flawed, they coulda tried to recoup a little money in that first month or two. maybe justify keeping it around.

They played outside and road bikes during their childhood. The problem with these eastern games is if they don’t do well in the local market, there is a hesitation to bring it to the global market. Problem with that is that the local market is so much smaller. One issue that’s killing BDO for example is that they cater to the Korean market yet NA/EU is most of their revenue. What Blue Protocol should have done was release a beta for this game, take feedback from western players then make adjustments accordingly. Bandai Namco grossly underestimated what they had on their hands.

The game was mediocre. This is not surprising to anyone if you've played it and saw the lack of depth. The story? Cliche. The combat? Bare bones. The dungeons? Repetitive. Gearing system? Worse system in any MMO i've played. Grindy, no depth. It had good character customization and amazing music, and that's really it. Its 2024, not 2014. You need to do something new and fresh to captivate your audience in the MMO genre.

Modern games have an entire history to study and learn what works and what does not yet they continue make the same mistakes over and over again. Older MMOs get into a min max rut over time. Even the devs start to prune fun mechanics to force players into a rotation. All the while white knights suck up and attack anyone who even questions. I found your channel thanks to Blue Protocol. Now I know that I wasn't the only one. Whenever I wanted to know if there were any news or updates regarding the game, I knew MMOByte was the place to go. I kinda left the mmo genre years ago. But this was the last thing I remember being excited about before retiring, I decided I will give that one a chance regardless. I am glad that this community exist so I am not alone in the sadness over this game that I dreamed of playing with others and explore this potentially great anime world. Its a bit ironic the news dropped a day before my birthday, and I found about it literal hour before my birthday ends. If anything it is very fitting I guess, I will remember it for sure, a bittersweet seal to this sort of a journey.

I’m super pissed about this news Blue protocol was the number one MMO I was looking forward to nothing came close. Blue protocol was the main reason why I started playing Genshin impact to hold me up for its release. Now since it’s gone, the only hopes I have for the MMO genre is the Riot MMO and the Hoyoverse MMO. And I pray to God that those don’t flop or I think I might just be done with the MMO genre in general.

As someone who purchased most of bandai's "AAA" JRPG/Single player titles (due to IP only), I can say with confidence the moment blue protocol is linked to bandai was known to me, i was already having a `watch and see attitude` lol. While their "AAA" games are pretty fun (for the IP enjoyer), personally do not think they warrant the price they put on, all their games are "only worth if discounted" if you're not invested in the game's IP.

The biggest issue with most mmo is that they strive to make every player the hero and that just isn't realistic if an mmo were to be true people and stories are built from playing... Eve online which you didn't mention probably has the best lore and history of any mmo and it's player driven, heroes are people that made themselves heros. More games need to stop trying to make everyone happy and the hero... people need to make their own stories... the best memories I have in wow or archage has nothing to do with the story of the game but interactions and wars or events with other players. Mmos truly shine when players drive the narrative.

The jp version was really bad and it was doomed from the start, the moment they started pushing heavy emphasis onto overpriced cash shop items than actual content. Incompetence from the developer team and greed killed the game before it was able to take off and potentially become a success. And now they want to make a mobile version of the game, since they know they can make money off of it instead.

nowerdays it would likely be smarter to release a non mmo and patch mmo-features into it. this might be the plan for something like wuthering waves. all it would need are dedicated server-instances as well as raids (i think groupanimations, guilds, groups would be quite easy to patch in)

Just a few years ago, this felt like a genre that had infinite potential, now its just... over. I can't believe an entire genre just... ended but this is it. After nearly every promising game ended this way,(Looking at you, Peria Chronicles) Blue Protocol was the last hope for the genre. It was going to be my final destination for MMOs. And that's not an exaggeration. It really did get to the point where ALL hopes were on Blue Protocol. It had everything going for it. It was basically a recipe for success. . We haven't had a good MMO release in over a decade and this honestly just proves we won't. The genre is a closed door. The only major games that will ever exist in it are the ones that already do. And if the game with every hope riding on it couldn't do it, I don't think anyone can. And its just... Sad. It really is the end of an era. Not with a bang, but a whimper. MMOs are just... dead.

I just started playing Visions of Mana and enjoy it, but a day after it came out, the studio got shut down. Crowdfunding and Indie development is the only future. Bc was the dream game for an otaku like me in 2019, open world, mmo, anime graphic style and developed by an japan company, what more could we otaku even want from a game at that time :) But then genshin suddenly appeared and it immediately raised the minimum standard of an open world anime game up to the sky :) Free to play, impressive anime graphic, open world, good enough story telling, good enough action system, no serious bug or glitch and have a fcking 13 difference language and 4 difference voice-overs for us to choose. And we can play them at the same time with the mainland chinese without not being banned away from the game .-. Yep almost 5 years later, bc release just for jp, with the worse quality, a lot of bug and glitch, and they ban every ips outside of japan :) Bandai can't understand that their games are no longer at the forefront of the anime game genre, they treat us like what they used to in 201x, thinking that the otaku from outside of japan have to wait for their blessing to play an anime game, and now they deserve this outcome :) we are always talking about how bad mihoyo treat their player because they don't give us enough free stuff, but when I think about what an otaku outside japan has to endure just to play anime games from this land, I feel that mihoyo is the true savior. They did what they said in their slogan, tech otaku save the world :)

There was something important you said in your video, about developers giving up...lacking passion...not giving their game a chance...not making fun, engaging, innovative games... All this is true. And, imho, that points to prioritizing the interest of shareholders (who only care about monetary return on investment), over the playerbase that games are "supposed" to be made for. Instead of finding legitimate ways to make games more appealing/accessible for players, studios are directed to find ways to gate content/progress, and steer players to spend ever increasing amounts of money. That's antithetical to fun, and is killing the industry. The only hope I see...and I stress "hope"...is for indie studios to buck the current trend, and succeed while doing so. It's a copycat world, and that would start a new trend, away from toxic monetization practices.

No. Bandai never intended to publish this themselves outside Japan. Therefore no simultaneous release. That's why they looked for a big publisher to do it. Maybe Amazon was the only one interested. Who knows. But no amazon did not interfere with a simultaneous release
