This song is mainly about the Blue Sky Mine in Witternoon, Australia. The town was closed off due to the asbestos mined there. Mine workers suffered a deadly lung disease named asbestosis. 'The Oils' is a band with a conscience and messages for the greater good in the world. Watch a live video as the lead singer, Peter Garrett, is interesting to watch. My favourite song is, 'Stand In Line,' LIVE at an outside concert. Australian band, Midnight Oil, is famous world-wide.

Asbestos dust gets into the lungs and the human body can’t get rid of it. The immune system can’t deal with it. Blue asbestos is the worst because the tailings are sharp.

The tailings were spread throughout the town so this didn’t affect just the miners but even women and children in Wittenoom. After CSR closed the mines, WA started the process of closing off the town, putting up warning signs and cutting services. They were able to get the last resident in 2022 and get rid of the buildings. Supposedly the roads are cut off so you can’t drive though. Hopefully they will be able to clean up but the asbestos has been there a long time. Maybe too hard and too expensive. 😢

They refer to the "Sugar Refining Company" because CSR (Commonwealth Sugar Refinery) had mining concerns as well as sugar plantations

Love the fact that you bother to check the lyrics dude. Shows that you actually want to understand the song...not just listen to it! Yeah, as other commenters rightly point out, The Oils are a legendary band with a conscience. This particular song is as relevant today as it ever was.... Big corporations taking advantage of the workers, exploiting them for financial gain, with no thought of how the workers or environment are damaged by their greed. 🤔😓😡. Great review brother 👍🏽

If you follow the history of Wittenoom, a lot of people came from other countries because the mines were to be very profitable because of the blue asbestos. The company CSR was aware that asbestos dust gets into the lungs very easily and the body can’t get rid of it. It develops into cancer and of course a person will die from it.

Song is about CSR a sugar company that also mined minerals, they were digging up blue asbestos, and many workers were affected with cancer and lung diseases. Nice reaction.
