Really great to see you pushing enrichment, so keep up the good work. I was under the impression the trend was to keep them in racks with no light - basically nothing, in Australia.
@coopsreptiles25885 жыл бұрын
Charles Bukowski thank you! There is many kinds of keeping styles here in Aus whilst racks do have a time and place I prefer to have my animals where I can better view them displaying wild behaviours in naturalistic environments!
@Henry-C-Bukowski5 жыл бұрын
@@coopsreptiles2588 I don't believe racks do have a time and place, reptiles are not cutlery. However, I completely agree viewing our reptiles in a good set up with enrichment, allowing them to exhibit natural behaviours is much more enjoyable for the keeper - and obviously the animal. Keep doing what you're doing, you'll be influencing the next wave of keepers and maybe even some older keepers with outdated husbandry.
@GhoulifiedDelta4 жыл бұрын
@@Henry-C-Bukowski I know this comment is months old but while I do agree that adult blueys should NOT be kept in racks there are some exceptions, reptile mountain tv has some nice rack set ups! Also I wanted to mention that having a smaller, more plain rack system is essential when breeding to make sure the babies/juveniles are pooping and acting as they should especially to avoid substrate impaction. But otherwise I completely agree. 🦎

No know will probably ever see this bc this video was made a year ago but, your should place supports under your rocks bc your skinks may borrow under them and it may fall onto your skink the over all great setup

Gavin they are against the bottom of the enclosure. Nothing to fall down to
@Joel-to3xx4 жыл бұрын
Hi, just wondering what size enclosure this is? And what % Arcadia t5 light would be suitable for eastern Blue Tongue Skinks Thanks Joel.
@droopymosin79814 жыл бұрын
Joel 1985 the percent of the bulb doesn’t matter as much . So when your trying to figure out the size or type of bulb just know it’s not as much how big the enclosure is , it’s how far the light is from the animal . Typically a strip t5 light is okay being 2 feet from an animal for proper absorption. Because remember the further the light is the more the light disperses and becomes less potent of rays
@droopymosin79814 жыл бұрын
So really just know 12 inches or more away from animal do 12 percent . 12 inches or less from animal do a 6 percent
@sheridanbrowning92112 жыл бұрын

Got two lowland blotchys , I live in Tassie. What temp do you recommend for them. They have 2ft glass tank as they babies.
@droopymosin79814 жыл бұрын
Jo Goddess1 look at care sheets and decide what’s the best way too heat them . Since you have a glass tank use heat pads and thermostats to control the heat
@ausreefguy53624 жыл бұрын
Are they ok to keep two together in the same enclosure long term ?, Do they have to be opposite sex ?, Is a 90x45x60 enclosure ok for two eastern blues or just one ? Looks good mate love your passion can really see it in the way you take care of them & the enclosures you built ! Well done !
@droopymosin79814 жыл бұрын
Do your research on what sexes can be coed . Most of the time even though they say you can you don’t want too . In the wild they do not . If you really want to have two just have two enclosures . As for the enclosure size remember bigger is always better
@GhoulifiedDelta4 жыл бұрын
I would say MINIMUM 120cmx48cmx48cm I have one adult in one of these and im thinking of upgrading lol. As for co-habbing i have only heard if two females from the same litter being successful but i wouldn't do that myself they can be pretty territorial
@GhoulifiedDelta4 жыл бұрын
Watch reptile mountain tv hes got some great advice!
@critterc0rner2 жыл бұрын
That size is too small even for one bluey. If you’re a newbie you shouldn’t attempt cohabbing at all. For a pair I wouldn’t go below 6-7 feet or keep them in a tank ever since they do better cohabbed in an outdoor pit. You need multiple or one massive basking spot which can get expensive and is difficult to achieve in an indoor tank without the temp gradients being out of whack. You also need multiple hides and other resources to reduce competition as much as possible.

Years ago when l was a kid. My dad would take me camping in Moulamein NSW to catch yellows and cods. One year l wanted to catch a Blue Tongue. So my dads cousin who live up there told me how to catch one. She said put some blue dye in a bowl of water and they’ll come. So l filled up 3-4 bowls and laid them around the camp. It wasn’t until we were coming home that my dad told it was bullshit. I laugh at it these days.

Hello. Just wondering what mulch that was and where you get it from? I am getting a hypermelanistic bluey in a few months and wanted to use some type of mulch as substrate but don't know which one is safest. Thanks 😊
