@danmagoo

Note to Windows users: The Yeti lets you set gain using either the hardware knob on the mic, and/or by setting the levels in Windows Sound Control Panel>Recording tab>(Yeti icon)>Levels. You can adjust these in any combination of Windows levels and/or hardware gain knob (although I don't recommend taking too long at these experiments!). With the Samson G-Track Pro, the Levels in Windows (and in your DAW) will appear frozen at either 0 or 100%, and all gain adjustments must be made on the microphone knob. This is "as designed". This gives the Samson mic a narrower range of possible signal levels than the Yeti -- but, the G-track gain is adequate even for Windows 10, and to me it definitely sounds way better than the Yeti.

@@LlfeMinecraft true but fanboyism aside, when you analyze the frequencies for recording purposes, the G-Track Pro has more body and refined mids that come out naturally out of the box. If you're doing voice overs and podcasting work, the G-Track pro can likely do both well. The Yeti suits podcasts but won't be as good for voice overs.

For me, Samson has a little more deeper sensation, perfect for voice act, but i've noticed it sounds little "plastic" sometimes, if that makes any sense, Blue Yeti in my opinion has a better neutral and natural sound, is cheaper and has 4 patterns...

I actually thought the Yeti had a better more fuller sampling of the acoustic guitar. The Samson seemed to remove the lower range which for me is what makes a acoustic guitar sound wonderful. I would go with Samson for voice. Yeti for quitar or singing. Very close testing otherwise.

I find the Yeti both harsh and a little boomy somehow. Like it has a noticeable high end (but so does almost every sub $300 mic) but it also sounds slightly like it's *poorly* (imo) coloured to have extra bass for a broadcast sound. The G-Track Pro is definitely a lot better sounding on cardoid mode and bi-directional mode. I think the Yeti has a slightly better performance in the omnidirectional mode. But I don't think that slightly better performance in omni is worth the clear superiority in both cardoid and bi-directional mode. Plus the G-Track Pro has a better sampling rate and the instrument input which I do think you'll want if you're recording instruments.

Silver Cobalt The G-Track Pro is pretty harsh too, but it's also very clear. The Yeti has a harshness that isn't helping clarity and seems to be coloured in the low end for a slight broadcast sound which doesn't help when it also has a harsh high end.

True true, Though i didnt really find the G-tracks highend to be that harsh...it could be better and id probably slap a nice foam filter over it. That would probably help it a lot. Plus if its anything like the regular G-track then youre supposed to be nice up close and personal with it.

So here's the basics. Samson is overall better if you know what you're doing. Yeti might sound better out of the box though before any editing. The issue with Samson is that they don't have an officially supported shock mount, which makes it really hard to get professional recordings if you accidentely bump the table just a TINY bit. It picks up EVERYTHING.
@danmagoo
@danmagoo 6 жыл бұрын
One problem with both is that the "cool-looking" desktop stands put the mic too far from your mouth (unless you are 4 feet tall) -- which creates the challenge of putting it onto a mic stand or boom arm that lets you comfortably adjust the angle. And it seems to me the G-Track Pro has the advantage of coming with a good adapter for that, while the Yeti just has the straight-up 5/8 in hole in the bottom. One of the things I dislike about the Yeti is that if you do take it off the desktop stand, it's hard to put it back in just right, with those little custom, curvy washers. (Also I think the Samson can go in a "normal" spider-type shock mount, while maybe the Yeti needs that Frisbee-sized, custom shock mount that Blue wants you to buy.) TLDR: The Samson mic gets points for being easier to use with a mic stand or boom arm, and/or with a shock mount. The comparison of the sounds is great, and should really help users decide. Great video.

I feel like people with voices that are pure high tones shouldn't be doing voice reviews with microphones. We need to hear voices with more mid and low tones in order to actually know how it will sound.

Maybe it's just me but, they both sounded great and if you don't need excess versatility then go for the cheaper option.
