I am getting more interesting in what I would term "folk" instruments...like the Scandinavian tagelharpa (essentially a cello)...but I love your native flutes! In a few years, when I start working, I will probably begin collecting various sizes and types (drone, triple, walking stick, bass, etc)

@BlueBearFlutes i live in northern maine, . i went to a music store and bought 4 flutes... 2 play . 2 i THINK arent finished . 1 is indian with no plug but has the finger holes ,ill question you about that at another time.... right now , i have a bamboo flute playes very high notes , the bamboo is arched aka bowed...it has 6 finger holes , open hole bore...is the arch intentional for this flute? or does it need to be straightened? i dont know anything about them..but want to learn..thank you for all your videos. i ran across you quite a long time ago, and now subbed to the channel to learn..i was thinking since bamboo is a water loving plant , i was considereing steaming it and slowly straightening out..but not sure , if this arch was intentional for the tones whats your thoughts? hope you have a great wkend ;];];] thank you for all that you do;];];]

I do have an early video on that as well as one in the last couple of years with more detail. Please look at Blue Bear flutes on KZbin and our videos. You can go all the way back to the early ones.

would hydrangea stems make any type of a substitute for river cane? i know the stems don't get huge but they do grow in a range of widths.

Daniel Menighan on Facebook may have been inspired by this flute, as he just recently made a 5 hole flute very small, about this length maybe infinitesimally fatter, with holes wrapped around the sides to fit them all :) you have a lot of effect on this world. The pic is here facebook.com/photo/?fbid=3452983731476684&set=pcb.3352038661573314 there is a video of him playing it in the Native American Flute Making Forum on FB but it's not on youtube so I don't know how to post it anywhere but FB

I’ve also been interested in the stories of the little people. It seems to be a worldwide phenomenon! Japan, Hawaii, Africa, America, Europe, etc. Fun fact: there was actually a real “Pygmy race” in Africa for a time, but unfortunately, I think they were all killed. Edit: turns out they’re still alive. Look them up!
@leeshipley63833 жыл бұрын
I made one longer but just as thin... wouldn't play though... I gotta try again.
@BlueBearFlutes3 жыл бұрын
That may be the reason. Thin can only support a given length. Like making an F# from a 1/2 diameter tube, it might play the F#, chances are it won't play any other notes however. Don't give up, it only took me 30 years! 😉
