We had a very enjoyable day here at Bluebell Railway while spending 9 weeks in The U K last year. It was one of our highlights and well worth the trip from Australia. Well done all the amazing volunteers at Blue Bell.

Bluebell, I think you should a Lewis extension and I do my bit for the railway with the 9f club

+Carmel Carragher - Extension to Lewes is extremely problematic - to start with, the filled-in cutting at Newick & Chailey would need a diversion on a new route, constructing a new cutting, since the industrial waste dumped in the original cutting is understood to be toxic, and would cost many tens of millions to remove. The railway's policy (and this really is looking beyond the "long term"), stated in the LTP www.bluebell-railway.co.uk/bluebell/soc/ltp.html is: "In the long term and beyond, the Railway may consider subsequent extension southwards to the county town of Lewes via Newick & Chailey and Barcombe. To make representations to the appropriate authorities to protect the right of way of the track bed, as and when necessary. To challenge development that will compromise the possibility of the re-instatement of the line southwards." So it's a good job we've got young members, like yourself and the others in the 9F club, who will be there in the very long term!

Is it possible to learn about welding as a volunteer?
@BluebellRail9 жыл бұрын
+Henry-Jim Casulli - We occasionally offer apprenticeships - you really need to learn that at a college, so the apprenticeships are done in conjunction with colleges; we do need people who can weld though - but a lot of the welding that's needed has to be done by qualified and coded welders, due to the safety-critical nature of the work. But if you have an aptitude and skill for welding and mechanical/metal work, you'd be a useful addition to our wagon gang, for example, and progress from there.

+Henry-Jim Casulli - To become a volunteer, join one of our "Find out More" days www.bluebell-railway.co.uk/bluebell/vol/vbbb01.htm and possibly express an interest in joining the wagon gang. This one needs some welding repairs: www.bluebell-railway.co.uk/bluebell/pics/15750.html
