Bluebell Railway Tr(ack) Action Appeal

Those of you who have travelled on the Bluebell Railway recently will have noticed there are sections of the line where the journey is a little uneven. This is due to track wear. The Railway wishes to accelerate its programme of track renewal thus we have launched the Tr(ack) Action Appeal to raise funds to do so. In addition to improving passenger comfort the renewed track will reduce maintenance costs on locomotives and carriages.

As a Passenger Guard on the Bluebell I fully appreciate the sections of new rail. Passenger comfort is much improved. The effort these volunteers put in to replace sections of rail In atrocious conditions overnight is to be commended. A truly professional team effort which reflects the attitude of all volunteers on the railway. Well done guys now for the next section in November, good weather order placed .

This video is fascinating. As someone who has done both professional and volunteer track maintenance as a worker and manager, I am impressed at the organization of this project. I have seen and been involved with track projects in the United States that did not have the same commitment of resources, material and personnel as this project did. And the idea of someone cooking meals for the crews to be served on real plates is amazing, given the fact the most you get at a job in the US is bottled water! Good luck and continued success with your track renewal project.
