Don't be afraid to cut up garlic and freeze it. That is something I learned last year (I'm almost 66) It is a great thing to have on hand if you don't want to take the time to skin garlic for your recipe. Nothing better to do on a cold winter snowy night....clean a bunch of garlic. Also...when you dry your garlic all of the greens need to be completely dried. Sometimes it takes me a month in zone 4. Then cut the roots off. Use one bulb to clean the dirt off of the next and repeat. When you cut the dried greens off of your garlic leave 4-5 inches of the stalk! You will have garlic until your next harvest comes in. The key is to not allow air to get into the bulb. Also don't remove any skins unless they are very dirty. Just brush them off with your previously cleaned bulb. Hope this helps.

Those are some great tips thanks for sharing! We ended up dehydrating 90% off our garlic this year and turning it into garlic powder. Last year we harvested garlic at just the right time so it stored all year long, but this year I harvested all of my garlic too late. I had a pretty good (and cute) reason though ;) 😊-Cara

Becky @acrehomestead preserves garlic with oil in little pucks in the freezer for cooking or salad dressings or marinades. It’s a wonderful idea. I put mine in little silicone ice cube trays and just pop them into a ziplock when they’re frozen :)

Good news harvest lovers. I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word (Jesus) and believes Him who sent Me (God) has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life. John 5:24 Jesus died for you, all you have to do is believe & repent.

Looks delicious. We grew honeynut squash for the first time this summer. OMG so good. With two plants we harvested 16. We didn't have any issues with squash bugs. We had so much rain and that is the reason I'm thinking our honeynut did so well. One squash is enough for hubby and I to enjoy with dinner.

That's awesome! They are so good aren't they?! 16 is a great harvest!! I am very jealous that you don't have squash bugs, they so bad here where we live. The plants die pretty much as soon as the squash bugs discover them. We don't spray anything on our plants, so I just have to deal with them unfortunately. We did end up with a lot of leftovers, I made a few too many, but thankfully we like leftovers :) -Cara

Cut up a apple and put that into the cavity of your chicken as well. The moisture from the apples helps to keep the meat moist and removes the stronger acidity taste from the dark meat. Everyone asks for the herbs I used or method of cooking as its always moist and none of the sometime unpleasant taste of the dark. We all fight for the dark meat but some don't like it, like my mother. Ill put apples into all my Turkeys as well. It really makes a difference in turkey.

Here in Australia the Butternuts are called pumpkins and are beautifully roasted with a lavish sprinkle of powdered parmesan cheese during the last 20 or so minutes of cooking, they are delicious. While I am new to watching your videos I will be coming back at every opportunity to see what you guys are doing in and around your homestead. Hi Cara, I have watched a few of your videos, and I am really pleased to see how these Honeynut Squash have turned out, because I have them to grow next year. I also roast my winter squashes too, so it made for an all round great video to watch 😁

Do you have a video teaching how to dehydrate the garlics?
@bluebirdhomestead
@bluebirdhomestead 7 ай бұрын
I do not have a specific video on that. I will try to describe it the best I can for you though. After I harvested the garlic I peeled each individual clove and then I used a food processor to rough chop the garlic. Then using silicone sheets in the dehydrator I layer an even layer of garlic on each tray. Then I dehydrated it at 125 degrees F for about 2 days. The length just depends on how wet your garlic is and the humidity. I do it until it is completely dry. Then I ran it in my high powered blender to make the powder. 👍 I hope that helps 🙂

Hi Cara! The chicken looked delicious! I am going to try the honey nut squash next year. I do tend to avoid the butternut as much as I like the flavor, because of how hard the rind is. With my arthritis I need foods that are easy to prepare. The dahlias are beautiful there on the window sill. 💖💖💖

Hi Meg! Thank you! I am sorry your arthritis has been painful. You could try roasting it whole then pealing and scooping the seeds out afterwards. I’d probably poke it with a knife a few times first though. 😊
