The garden is looking fabulous and so lush. Dahlias are beautiful and hopefully the beetles 🪲 won’t do too much damage, they decimate entire forests here in Canada 😢. Excellent harvest though and that’s certainly a blessing. Have a wonderful week ahead, Ali ☔️🇨🇦

Thanks Ali! It’s sad to see the damage the beetles do to the garden. We are exploring the best ways to take care of them better for next year. I can’t imagine whole forests being destroyed! That’s rough

Potatoes! My husband's dream 😂 I've never grown garlic but I've heard that harvesting the scapes helps force the energy into the bulb.

I would say to pull the potatoes easily try the pull method first, which is just pulling the stem out and seeing if it pulls any potatoes with it or use a shovel against the edge to pull up the dirt and potatoes.

Thanks for sharing the advice! In this case, the potato stems were pretty well died off, so the scraping method was necessary.

@@bluebirdhomestead in ground garlic . We had a 20 below zero weekend which I feel hurt it the worse than anothe zero temps for several days . I’ll be prepared to cover next winter should this happen 🤔🤓. But… a friend whom I’ve not seen in a while who wasn’t aware of my poor harvest brought me several heads of their boomer crop ! A Godwink huh😉👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

We saved our potato and garlic harvest from last year to plant this past year. Most of the garlic is elephant, but there was some music garlic as well and a few other varieties. I’d have to re-watch my planting video to tell you the exact names ☺️
