Hey y’all! The concert euphonium I’ve been using was borrowed from a friend, they took it back to college so now I am in desperate need of a new euphonium:

Please consider donating! Anything is appreciated!
This is something that we put together at the first round of the Bluecoats audition camp. We had a professional singer, Dave Vives, come out and record with us. Check out the Bluecoats Facebook page for the full cinematic recording. Hope you enjoy the Euph cam!

I know right! The song is so beautiful, and with all the dynamic contrast and so so many brass…plus the established singer helps a bit lol.

Hello, I’m a trombone/baritone player and I have been looking into marching DCI. However I do not understand how the audition process works as well as I was unsuccessful on finding any good information to help me understand the process.Could you explain the audition process for me to help me understand?

Hey I'm not the poster but I did march this past summer. There's usually two ways to audition, one being a virtual audition via video or going to an actual in-person camp. You can find more information on each respective corp's websites, along with audition materials, but when you audition you'll either get cut, a callback or a contract. If you get cut that usually means you'll have to wait until next year to audition with that same corps or go find another corps to audition with. A callback means they liked what they heard and saw but want to see you improve, so they'll invite you to their callback camp which takes place wherever the corps home base is (for Bluecoats its Canton, Ohio), where you'll audition again, competing with other people who received callbacks. After that you'll usually either get cut or a contract, which means they want you on their hornline/perc/guard and are offering you a spot. Hope this helps.

Hey, he basically covered the whole process. Usually the materials to audition will be on each corps website. For the Bluecoats it was $25 for the audition packet, and another $150 for the (early bird) audition. For Carolina crown you have to pay $175 for the audition pack and the virtual audition. Each corps is different but the top 12 usually vary between $75 and $175 for total audition costs. Practicing the technique packet is very important. For the Bluecoats first audition there was a lip slur OTM, a stand still medley of last years songs, and a “wow factor.” The audition will change each year. But hearing the fundamentals in your playing is really important for brass staff. The reason I got my callback was because they loved my fundamentals! After I was given callback status they sent us the next assignment which was performed at the next camp. So rinse and repeat. If you’d like a more in depth explanation I can make a video of the whole experience at both camps and the ups and downs!

One thing I will suggest if you’re completely new the drum corps world to March a year or two of all age DCI. I am going into my fourth year marching with Fusion Core Drum and Bugle Corps and it’s really been beneficial. It’s still not too late to be able to march somewhere, and whether it’s fusion or somewhere else I highly suggest it!
