It’s really nice to see the Ice Queen get the props she has always deserved. She has been great since Young Girl Blues. I have heard some people acknowledge her playing, but cut down her vocals. She sings in her own voice and doesn’t try to imitate Koko Taylor or the type of female blues shouter they are familiar with. Her songs, playing and vocals are honest. She is a killer on guitar but doesn’t overplay. I even hear Willie Brown in her string popping. She knows her stuff and is about to get her PhD in music.

She's playing at the world-class Musical Instrument Museum auditorium in North Phoenix on June 19. She's one of the best and one-of-a-kind. There is no better intimate, acoustically perfect place than the MIM to see artists like her. I can't wait.

Met her in Edmonton, during the ‘80’s. Even then, you knew she could really play! Got to talk with her…she told me she was into Texas Blues, more than Chicago, (like her lanky, other guitarist). In ‘91, Clifford Antone’s invited her to Austin, (where I caught her in ‘93, at his club, Antone’s). She lived there & recorded for his label for a number of years. I wish she’d release a live album, that’s where she truly shines! Addendum: Her website has a new, 2023, live record from the Continental Club, in Austin. She’s living there once more. ✅
