What amazed me about Clarence was that he didn’t have anyone to emulate; except maybe Andy Taylor?

@@travis8947 yeah, but that was back when few had actually heard Doc pick unless you had attended the Newport Folk Festival. The early innovators truly had a gift and am blessed that I’ve been able to emulate bits and pieces what they would play on a whim. To add the licks in the middle of a tune and then tear off a stunning mouth-dropping lead is heaven to me.

Joe Maphis was an early influence on Clarence. It’s very easy to hear his influence on Clarence’s early playing with the Kentucky Colonels.

Great demo/lesson what a tone on that old D18..That box is so woody and vintage toned..What year is it? 37'? Is that a BC pick? TP48? Strings?
