I have to say, you setup your area really well. Kudos for taking the extra safety steps with resin printing. Welcome to resin printing, I look forward to seeing what projects you have going forward :D

Hey - thank you Nate! I'm trying to start the hobby right. I've actually been running into the fumes still being an issue. You can see what my plan is to help deal with it here: www.youtube.com/@BluelineDesignStudio/community Your thoughts are welcomed.

It's great to see that safety and PPE were the first priority with your first resin printer, so many newbies to the hobby disregard it despite it being more important than the printer you ultimately choose.

I appreciate you saying that. I learned a lot of hard lessons about chemicals from when I worked in the make-up effects industry which was my former career.

@@BluelineDesignStudio Well it's good your prior experience set you up for success, i would look into some sort of fume extraction for the area in general, most of the fumes kicked up happen in the post processing phase. I use a cheap oven range hood as a fume hood over my workspace, works wonderfully, also for disposing of your waste material (gloves, supports, paper towels and anything else contaminated with resin) i HIGHLY recommend you buy a bin specifically made for diapers, they are designed to completely seal the waste between uses so prevent fumes passively building up in your workspace.

@@101stsurvivor Your suggestion is perfectly timed. Check out what I just posted the other day: kzbin.infoFo1Ju5FlzrI?si=3XFhEFko3RGqmyVi The baby diaper trash bin is brilliant! Will totally look into that. Thank you. :)

Agreed with the comments below, cool to see the fan you setup to eliminate fumes. This is the one issue I am squeamish about having an in home 3D printer. Thanks so much for the links and the cool breakdown. I may be ordering my Saturn 4 Ultra sooner thanks to you.

That's very encouraging- thank you! Even with my low budget spray booth it's still a challenge. I'm using a REALLY smelly resin (Tenacious) and its been a battle. Today I did a print and covered the whole printer with a lawn leaf bag to try to contain the smells from leaking out of the cracks in the cover. I just think of how bad it was without the effort. You will love the S4U!

@@BluelineDesignStudio I saw a guy using a grow tent to contain it all. He even had a small heater in there for colder temp. The grow tent has built in venting holes for your fan setup. Thought it seemed like a viable solution. Maybe a more solid enclosure , with foam insulation?

@@GraphiteSamurai I looked into that as well. I agree it would work better - only drawback for me was price ($150+) and honestly it just doesn't look very nice. Since I only do one print every other day I plan to just set it up to run overnight and not be in the room when its going. The dream is to have a room just for the printer. :)

Personally, I wouldn't use the metal scraper. If you overexpose the bottom layers and have a very steep angle(35 degree+) on your skate(foot of supports) it will be hard to remove and you risk scraping the build plate as you saw on your first print. Just use a plastic scraper(they gave me an orangish one), tune in your bottom layer exposure time to something like 35-40s instead of 50, and decrease the angle of skate for easy removal from plate with zero scratches, I personally use a 26 degree angle and that works perfectly.

@BluelineDesignStudio 24 күн бұрын
Thank you for that! I actually started using a plastic scraper that has a plastic “razor blade”… works way better! Also I’ve been lifting the prints off the build plate with supports and it’s really helped as well. I will learn more about the skate as that is new to me. Appreciate your advise. :)

I just subscribed. I’m planing to order the Saturn 4 ultra. It was recommended by FauxHammer for my first printer since many of the settings get eliminated by the moving resin bed. Congrats on your new hobby and I will be checking on your progress. Thanks

Thank you Walter. I don't think I could have picked a better printer as my first one. I have had only ONE fail as of now and it was because I used small supports. Every other print has been a win. I think they literally made it idiot proof and thats a good thing for me. ;)

@@BluelineDesignStudio I have a lot to learn. I have never used a slicer before so I have a lot of work to do so the less settings I need to deal with, the better. The only thing I’m not liking about the printer set up is that if you buy the mini heater it will block the exhaust port so I will need to find a way to drill a large hole for exhausting the fumes is I decide to go the heater route or look for another way to heat the resing.

@@walterramirez3287 There are so many tutorials for the slicer. I use Chitubox and it’s not been too hard to learn enough to do basic prints. What you are seeing on my channel is what I’ve been learning over the past month. I’m totally hooked.

@@BluelineDesignStudio saw your video of the UAV led light to cure inside the prints, great idea. I’m looking into a fermentation belt to put around the resin bed to warm the resin since the heater for the printer will block the exhaust port. Thanks again for all the info.

@@walterramirez3287 I haven't had to print yet in the cold but have a heater in my studio. I also picked up a cover for the printer that keeps heat in (and some of the fumes) and blocks out the UV light so you can open the blinds while printing: amzn.to/4dtfh5X The large cover fits the S4U perfectly! I would choose the exhaust port over the heat any day of the week. Those fumes have been a battle. Fell free to reach out if I can be of any help with my limited knowledge. ;)
