Every family needs at least one Dayton somewhere on the family tree to make life interesting. Then there's always something cool going on down in the lab, and the opportunity to learn how & why things actually work. Plus, the math behind the physics fine tunes the engineering to get the actual desired results. When I was a teenager, I was so fascinated by high school physics that I constructed a cloud chamber with dry ice to look at atomic particles emitted by my dad's radium dial painted watch. But my niece's boyfriend recently built a cloud chamber that is cooled by an array of Peltier crystals - much, much better! Technology is always evolving and it's great to hang out with people who want to understand it all by experimenting with whatever comes to hand. So, here's a toast to Dayton and the spirit of experimental science & engineering. And thanks for sharing dude!

hes hilariously uninformed and talking out of his ass through most of this video. i like how he calls kreosans video fake (not that its not) and his proof is a comparison of the effects of a microwave gun on a tiny low powered battery powered device, to a mains voltage actual stereo system pulling a hell of a lot more power out the wall while being blasted by the microwave gun. or his claim that "you cant pull 2kw out of any outlet in your home" when you can pull about 2.2kw off the average house outlet.

So, if you wanted a microwave gun with the range to knock a drone out of the sky at reasonable distance, wouldn't you want to go with a microwave laser, commonly called a MASER (microwave amplification by stimulated emission of radiation)? I would love to see THAT in action!

@@1southsoon I mean, that HEAVILY depends on scale. A man-portable maser probably isn't going to knock out a plane at 36,000 feet up.... One the size of a rifle might be really god at zapping things at a few hundred yards, though.

​@@eimronaton363I would think it would be very similar to building any laser but much more difficult and dangerous. You would need a source of coherent microwaves and a way to focus them. Probably lots of specialized test equipment and a good understanding of physics.

Important additional bit of high voltage danger, the capacitor, as all do, may maintain a very large charge potential, even long after unplugged. They must be shorted to discharge. Capacitors discharge their full load all at once, thus are extremely Dangerous! Unless one knows what they are doing they should avoid messing with anything that contains capacitors, as even much smaller ones than shown in this vid can be deadly!

@@StephanieSoressi Connect them to ground, though you will get a full discharge instantaneously, so the circuit or wire you do it with should be able to carry the full discharge energy. A series resistance in the circuit would slow the discharge, but again, the resistor used must be rated to carry the current/voltage of the accumulated charge. Even an unplugged microwave or TV, the capacitor is still hot until it's discharged. You can electrocute yourself easier with an unplugged microwave or TV, because most people have no idea what the capacitor does, it holds a charge until discharged, unplugging it won't discharge the capacitor. Thanks for the video, I have a few microwaves that I am going to tear down this weekend. Appreciate your help and expertise.

After 24-72 hours an unplugged capacitor loses its charge. If it’s been unplugged for awhile there’s no charge left. Wait at least a week to be safe, triple check there’s no batteries inside. Wear robber gloves. You’ll be fine. Start with low voltage items to learn. Taking things apart is a fun, cheap, educational hobby.

The cautions on the capacitor is real. Having experienced an electrolytic discharging into my hand while working on a TV set in high school electronics class…ouch. This was a very entertaining video, well crafted and fun! Great work!

Nice! I had my waveguide (a tin can with both sides cut off) flush with the magnetron not knowing why it wasn't effective. You are very informative and helpful!

If modified properly, this can make things glow white and poof into nothing in a matter of milliseconds. It's just that in order for it to be a long rage weapon, the lobes need to be focused to a sharp flux, and to be a practical weapon, would need a device within to adjust and focus the flux, and need to be rigged to a range finder through a computer, so that it automatically adjusts the flux. To make a basic microwave gun with decent range, maybe instead of that square horn mussle, stick the magnatron antennas into aluminum lined funnels, and over both of those, one larger aluminum lined funnel faced so that the small end is the end of the barell. Would that compress the lobes?

Hey man, if I'm not mistaken. You're that kid that told his parents that you're going to make a vision reactor in your garage and you ended up actually doing it. And buddy was surprised that it's perfectly legal. It's glad to see that you grew older. And you kept into the profession, I'm kind of a new bee on it and I'm kind of jumping on from you know, I'd say advanced into masters, if I'm going into particle physics and stuff like that, I studied it a little bit as a kid for a joke but. Actually, did seem an interest into it because it's our whole structure of anatomy, screw or heart and stuff. What's consisted of our heart, the atoms, you know what? hi, I would like to build a microwave machine to disinfest wooden floors and furniture from woodworms. Using the components of 2 microwave ovens, can you advise me on the shape, position and distance to observe to build the electromagnetic bell? I would use the original 6.4cm magnetron guides but how should I assemble the emitters? placed side by side like your gun or as I see on the net arranged in parallel? A thousand thanks

I've constructed the exact setup with transformer.Im able hear the fussy vibration of circuit that means the setup is working fine but I don't know why my magnetron is not luminating fluorescent tube.Please can anybody help me with this.

The RF bounces off of everything, metal is generally aluminum in RADARs, but I don't believe the purity is essential. The size of the "waveguide" is important however. For 2.45Ghz it's roughly 122mm by 61.3mm. If you disassemble the microwave, it'll have the dimensions you need just like he does in the video closer to the end of the video

You should build a pulse forming network and hit those magnetrons with a nice fast rise time pulse about 8-10kv then you will get some real power out of them! ;)

Sup Faud, I dug around in my e-mag knowledge a bit. Helical antennas create circularly polarized waves, which means that you would need a circular waveguide also. Waveguides only direct the wave, not create it. The antenna itself is on the magnetron - the piece just above the ceramic insulator. You would need to tap off of that to attach a different antenna. Beware, helical antennas' field lines go all over the place. To answer you directly: Yeah, it's possible, just... different.

Hello, I have a question, can the electro magnetic waves be diverted in a pipe ? In case if i have 4 compartments to be cooked, I have one centralized Magnetron, Can I divert the waves through any tube like structure ? Is it possible to have a solenoids control 4 valves for each compartment and turn on in each compartment when ever required. And in a normal microwave oven, How is the distance influenced between magnetron and the food ? Suppose the distance is close to the food, and if the distance is 150mm , How this would result ? Hi..the idea is so cool. but what if i connect an another transfomer in parallel for increasing the current so i think the range of the microwaves will be increased too. However if the transfomer is connected can the magnetron handle the increased current?

The magnetron is tuned for a certain voltage so that the magnetron cavity can catch electrons at their "critical angle" - of course this has a lot of variation. If you could supply more current to the magnetron at the same voltage, it would be more powerful but it would heat up quickly. And magnetons suck at heat dissipation as it is.

They are doing this to people on a regular basis.Some people they do it to all day every day.I know this.It can target any of your joints(knees,wrists,ankles) or your stomach and make you burp up air constantly when you are sleeping.

Great video. Does anyone know if this gun was pointed at a 30mA ELCB in a plastic consumer unit through say 2 standard bricks (my wall), would it flip the breaker?

Let's think it over. Bricks are non-conductive, so they won't reflect much EM radiation from the magnetron, but they are fairly thick. Plastic is like its not even there for microwave radiation. Hmm... It depends on how sensitive the ELCB is. I'd guess that the bricks will dissipate too much power and the breaker will be fine - Just based on what I've seen of microwaves.

hI @@BlueprintScience I have seen a brick in a microwave oven on KZbin and it exploded blowing the door off. I guess this is the moisture trapped in the little bubbles within the brick vaporising rapidly. I was thinking of a low power warmup at say 20w-50w for a few weeks to dry the bricks out and drive out all the moisture.

Will the horn actually amplify microwaves or just spread them out? I think a horn can only amplify sound. If you want to amplify anything else you would need to concentrate it into a smaller point

Electromagnetic waves can be amplified the same as sound. Note, it doesn't increase the power, just the amplitude.

So, after watching this video and the magnatron video I learned: Beryllium is a highly toxic metal, EM waves can be amplified by using a gap in walls to create a circular motion but it uses alot of energy to do this and creates crazy amounts of heat, microwave guns may be illegal (and of course are 100% deadly to those who don't know electronics), and you can amplify voltage with a high voltage amplifier that doesn't carry much current, so the amplifier is probably the only live component that won't kill you if you touch the wrong component without proper PPE.

sai ilfs, sure thing... The capacitor and diode are a half wave voltage doubler. They send peaks of 4000V into the magnetron. The magnetron needs voltages like this In order to operate. Second, microwaves aren’t “hot” per se. there is a fixed energy rate and we adjust heat by how long things (like food) are exposed to that energy.

1:40 Whether the danger lies within the high voltage or the high current is debatable. Surely 2KV of open-circuit voltage won't necessarily kill you. In that case though, the transformer has a low output impedance, which means it has the capability of sustaining a high voltage with a fairly high current. The voltage is way higher than the dielectric strength of human skin, and the current is more than enough for ventricular fibrillation. Wrapping it all up: stay away from these things, kids!

Generally, transmitters are not variable. The tuning is done with the magnetron itself. To change the frequency, you would need a transmitter that it tuned to it - whatever it may be.

Do you know how I would be able to detect the ‘rays’ that come out of microwave/electromagnetic weapons? Like ideally there would be a type of lens you would need in a pair of glasses but that’s unlikely right?

Detecting the source of a radio signal (like a microwave weapon) is doable, but an involved process. First you would need an antenna to receive the radio energy (like another horn antenna) on a turn table. Rotate it 360 degrees while taking a constant measurement. At the angle where the energy is the greatest, that is most likely the source.

personally id like a table with a ton of lights to light up and indicate nodes, etc. then you could tune it. youd just need lightbulbs or leds in the yard, and then rotate the microwave platform to see how the wave looks in 3d. nodes and antinodes and dispersion and so on... i think for safety equipment take the screen out of the door and make goggles from a microwave door.

For channeling waves off the mag as you drew it, wouldn't a simple elizabethan collar formation work perfectly? It would bounce the waves ~ 90 deg straight out....?

That would work as well. The reason that I made mine the way that it is is because I was using the rectangular waveguide from the microwave as my first stage. Therefore, the rest should be rectangular also. P.S. I had no idea that was called an "Elizabethan collar" - I'll add that one to my vocab.

Why nkt change the magnatron antenna from what im assuming is an omni directional dy pole antenna to a directional say yagi or parabolic type im sure that would be alot of research and the video would get taken down. But would be fun if you have the given resources. Enjoyed

The reason that I used what I did was a combination of safety and using what I had. Parabolic dished are hard to make. I tried using cooking pots, but they didn't pan out (pun intended). Plus, the waves are already polarized, so it wouldn't have helped much. A Yagi antenna is an interesting idea but it does send some radiation behind it and I wouldn't be comfortable with that. In reality, I believe the military uses parabolic dish antennas, so you're not that far off!

If I had to guess: a high voltage SCR on the magnetron input would to the trick. Other than that, you could try mixing the output. Working on a transmitter, I take it?

I always thought kreosans electronics exploded because they were plugged into 220v mains that eventually shorted out from the magnetron. Often in his videos he doesn't have a circuit breaker to limit current. Of course your little 3v radio wouldn't explode.

i can tell you normal stereo amplifieres (even brand names like pioneer) are really shitty when it comes to overload protection. Thats why i always used car amps at home ;) , I had seen epensive amps dying which cost several hundret euros back then at 60% volume xD. I thought i am not dumb i can buy 4-5 brand car amps with the same power(or more since 60% is lol). Maybe the< put fireworksinside for the effects, but the amps dying is very possible even without fireworks. But maybe not, they use some crazy 32Amps, so they have a "special" main current xD. Funny thing is there where other channels which even doubted that a microwave gun is possible, because they cant do it xD. (AllenPan and ElectroBoom for example) Pretty legit argument lol. So keep in mind that just because you cant to something doesnt mean others cant do it too. I subed here since you can do stuff other people cant do too ;D

@blueprint - There's no scorching on the displayed remnants. You kept shutting off the microwave before the lightbulb explosion temperature was achieved. In short, your video is disalarmist bullshit. Beyond that, volts don't kill, amps do. Your hokey "science" is blatant to the extreme. Your "microwave gun" is a shoddy design intentionally limited in it's power by the duct you chose to off center mount. Condensing the beam is crucial to increasing power per cm squared delivered on target. In short, your design is bullshit.

In that video they blew the stereo and you can see what seems like a foil wrapper floating around which appears to be from the pyrotecnics, but anyway, their videos are typically truthful about the actual effect. If they wanted to lie they could blow the stereo with the gun from outside the house without having to sit in the adjacent room separated only by a wall and probably about 10 feet away which curiously is also the rame range your gun seems to have.

I think you’re talking about one of two weapons: The army uses a 10GHz directional microwave weapon for crowd dispersion. It causes a burning feeling but is otherwise harmless. Also, cargo and passenger ships sometimes use ultrasonic weapons to deter attackers. The vibrations become extremely unbearable and painful at mid range.

Would short pulses of high voltage (higher than 2kV) and high current (much higher than an average current in the microwave oven) improve the ability of the gun to shot down a drone? Very informative video! Great work.

Thought about it. It would be hard to make that an interesting video though. I don't know what I would do with it. Besides, a horn is technically an antenna (according to my 1986 textbook on antennas for what that's worth).

I was in microwave communications in the Marine Corps. Our waveguide was hooked to an 8ft parabolic dish. It transmitted in the direction the dish was pointed and the signal from the other location used the dish to focus the waves to the receiver in the center of the dish (about a foot or so away from the dish.) We transmitted line of site with about 10 watts. Our instructor told us that he was transmitting over a calm lake and they had 5x5 com over several miles on 1 watt. It took a bit more power for a troposcatter set up. This was 30 years ago. I don't even know if they use microwave communication any more.

The sound of the microwave gun when it was turned on really got my cat's attention for some reason. He was just sitting peacefully, intently watching me eat, then as soon as he heard the sound his ears perked up, he stood up and looked at the TV like it was freaking him out. Very odd. I've tried messing with him using tone generators before to no real effect. So I'm surprised he reacted like this. Maybe there's some combination of hamonics from the speakers or something. Sounds like a job for spectrum analysis!

Some are. Some use EMF and V2K. It's my best guess. I lived in a house in Denver where I was tortured with these weapons. My friend at the time poisoned me with some that become remote. I suffer everyday of my life. There's a class of people in Denver using these weapons to control others when it comes to religious beliefs, sexual orientation, and just instill a general sense of shame. It's disgusting and terrorism. All people involved are committing treason, but the FBI does gaf! They are unaware if it's a federal crime. Meanwhile, these people using psycho-terror on the American public. It's as innocuous threat as stacking Facebook during presidential elections, but they're directly attacking the psyche and livelihood of free individuals into to creat a new supremacist society.

It won't kill you right away any more than a standard 120 v outlet would kill you right away if you have wet skin; provided you break the connection. You would get burned without doubt. The thing that kills you is the random interruption of the heartbeat at 50 Hz. The heart will likely experience arrhythmia after shock, but the chance of heart fibrillation is the same above 100 volts; even then, you have approximately 8 minutes to use a defibrillator; though you will likely be unconscious. The time the brain can live without oxygen can also be greatly extended by packing the brain in ice to prevent brain damage. I know because I was once involved in an accident where myself and a team of 5 others were all shocked by an 8000 volt power line; one of my coworkers was electrocuted. We all sustained burns, and I even broke both my shoulders. But the point is; it will not instantly kill you, it will just maim, burn, disfigure, and traumatize you.

Your videos are awesome. Could you please make a seperate video for why the electromagetic wave is an horizontal "8" shape on antenna? How does the electromagetic wave being convoyed from inside magnetron to the top of antenna? Is it simply because the waves just flow on the copper to the top or any other mechanism that are driving them? There are so many "why" after watching the video.

Edison, First off, all good questions! I try not to cram too much into a video that the audience dies of boredom. However, I did intend to bring it up in a future video. No ETA as of now. For now, I can say that the pattern I was drawing is called a “near-field” and “far-field” which is unique to every antenna. Every engineer uses antennatheory.com as it has that and more in one convenient spot. Also, the RF is carried through conductors in the magnetron to the monopole stub antenna at the front, very similar to wires. There is an RF wire and a ground wire. Hope that helps!

Unfortunately it doesn't work that way. The inside of a magnetron is not a suitable waveguide for 2.4GHz waves. The energy would be dissipated as heat in the metal after the antenna re-absorbs the waves. P.S. What do you mean "or else"? Or else what?

Could an "old school" 4 meter satellite dish be used as a focused beam high energy "weapon" by replacing the LNA with an engineered wave guide & 1200 watt magnetron to overload the receiver circuits of a satellite ? Generally satellites like the Dish Network and Direct TV only transmit about 10 to 15 watts down to earth. They probably have input overload protection built in though. If it was possible and one got caught doing this, would you have to pay for a new satellite and launch (after 20 years in prison)?
