I met and played in the same Jr. High @ IS 293 in Brooklyn NY and High School (Erasmus Hall School of the Performing Arts) band as Greg Hutchinson when he was just 12yrs old. Even then, as a kid his work ethic and desire to know what he was doing on the drums was phenomenal. Our Jr. High (Nathan Hale, IS293) school teacher Mr. Basan and our High School (Erasmus Hall) Jazz Band music teacher Mr. Stornilo (affectionately known as "Stony") both had significant influence in our lives as young musicians, but especially had influenced the likes of talented musicians such as Greg and many others' who'd gone on to become professional MASTERS of their craft. You are truly watching a Master on drums. Greg Hutchinson is and will be known as one of the great jazz drummers and teachers of the percussion instrument of the modern era of Jazz. You're definitely watching and listening to a VERY SPECIAL MUSICIAN - KC

If he played drums like this in the 50s and 60s he would be known as the greatest jazz drummer of all time

Yes.... Besides Roy Haynes... Which is Greg's numbero uno influence
@waynebanks8975 жыл бұрын
@@AlexinoJazz - I have to say I think his number one influence is Philly Joe Jones. You could mention any other secondary influences after that, Tony, Elvin, even Buddy. I just don't hear a heavy Roy influence personally.

@@waynebanks897 yep man,d3finitely as well as,and you can hear it of course.. Still I know it from him personally... Roy Haynes will always be.... Still his whole musical way is amazing... Since couple of years you can definitely hear his stronger influence from Elvin... I love it, still its crisp and tight but a bit more "bigger" u know what I mean. All the best to you

Pianist reminds me a lot of Monty Alexander. Personally, I would of liked to see a couple choruses of block chords and a couple choruses of double hand unison lines ala Benny Green. Nonetheless, pianist is a monster.
