Just out of curiosity where does the lick at the 7th fret 1st string and 8th fret 6th string come from? It looks like you are playing the 3rd (G) and 5th (B) on an E minor chord.

Hi Joe have watched your lessons and have found them very helpful. Now this may sound like a very silly question but do the licks take the place of the 12 bar structure or are they actually between the bars... Does this make sense?ie if we play four bars of E then a lick and then 2 bars A or are the licks included in the bars. sorry if this sounds confusing

+Andrew Robertson Hi Andrew, sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Thanks very much for taking the time to comment. The question you asked is not a silly one by any means, however these things are often very much easier to explain in person than in words if that makes sense. I don't think there is any definitive answer, I think it may be better if you experiment and see what works for you. The thing is, irrespective of the bar structure that you play, you will tend to find that it will fit what ever you do, having said that, the more you listen and practice, the more you will get a feel for what sounds best. I hope that helps in some small way I know it's not a definitive answer, but part of the aim of the lessons is to help people like yourself develop confidence in their own listening skills if that makes sense. Thanks for watching

JoesGuitar lessons Thanks Joe. Appreciate your reply.I think I know what you mean. But if i was playing with other people (guitars) and they were doing the 12 bar structure would the licks go over the bars or between. Sorry i am being a pain. I know I have loaads of work to do but do find your clips very useful..

+Andrew Robertson Your not being a pain Andrew, if I understand you correctly, the licks go over the bars. One suggestion I would make is to try to record yourself playing the rhythm, even if it's just on a mobile phone and then play riff over it, that's a great way to practice your licks. Hope that helps.
