What is the downside? Turbo or engine fails sooner? Warranty gone? Genuinely curious since I'm saving up for this vehicle.

There isn't really a downside. In terms of engine wear, there won't be any appreciable difference. The engine will very likely outlast the car regardless. Certainly here in the UK small hatchbacks don't tend to do engine troubling mileages. If you look at any older small cars they tend to be scrapped because of bodywork issues (rust). If you take it back to Kia with it fitted, then there is a chance they would void drivetrain warranty, but given that it takes 10 minutes to remove, its very easy to put everything back to standard and if you do, there is no trace of installation.

Do you have an article or similar that gives an overview of how this all works (the actual chip). Also, I assume that once you unplug from your unit and plug back in as OEM, it will work like stock. With your chips, does anything else need to be upgraded such as the brakes and is it dangerous for the engine or other components by increasing power and torque, etc

No other mods are neccesary. For normal use the brakes should be fine, stopping from 60mph takes the same time in the same car regardless of its power output. I hope this helps.

What's the difference between this and the others where you remap the ECU through the OBD?

Our tuning boxes are a plug and play device, connected via sensors in the engine as you can see in this video. Typical ECU remaps via the OBD requires specialist equipment, and a proper custom tune like we offer at Bluespark, requires full dyno testing with the vehicle on site with us. Our boxes are a great alternative to this as they offer pretty much the same power gains as an ECU remap but can be installed by yourself in around 20 minutes. The main difference is that you can remove the box at any time and the vehicle reverts back to stock, with no trace left on the ECU. Then once you change vehicles, you can simply get it reprogrammed to suit that engine instead, unlike the ECU remap which remains with the current vehicle. In simple terms, it will offer power gains just like a remap but with the flexibility of being plug and play 🙂

a tuning box can't do northing. by telling the car to do more then 1v to the boot.. really spits out another 30bhp.. lol

I have driven a Picanto with this module installed (1L Turbo), and it does in fact work and there are no codes etc... I do have a picanto GT as well and after driving the "tuned" one mine was significantly slower. I suspect the 0-100 is now probably 8-8.5s rather than the original 9.5s but I won't get to test it since the owner is interstate.

@@Joshie120 Yup, it is noticeable for sure. We are all wrong at times, no problem, to admit it shows character, good stuff. May I suggest you follow the recommendations down to last detail, for example not just start at highest setting from get go, move up through settings step by step it's worth the trouble, to stay trouble free. Use only quality fuel, for ex here in the EU I go for 98 octane, not the 95 stuff. The power is bumped up but stay within the engines capabilities to deliver it safely, look a t a new Mercedes A45 for ex, they squeeze out 421HP from a 2l i4, our Picantos sure cannot do 200HP/liter unless heavily modified if even then. Cannot expect the engine to be as long lived as larger NA engine pushing same figures, but down sizing and boosting is the name of the game these days or until electric take over completely and we can all sing along with Greta T about saving the earth.

No, we don’t require your car on site for this tuning option,. You can simply place the order on our website, enter your vehicle details, we then program the tuning module with mapping files to suit that vehicle, and then we ship out to you. You will receive full step by step instructions, or follow this video as a guide to help you install the box 🙂

My car has barely got 10k miles and I’ve serviced it since new my self, it’s not that bad but my friend recommended a chip like that, it’s a 2015 model as well, and super well looked after I am just a little worried about engine damage, as I suppose Hyundai had spent millions perfecting the vehicle just for someone to put a £150 chip to make it faster to potentially cause damage engine at one point or another due to increasing HP, it’s non turbo of course so that’s an even bigger worry! Do you have any recommendations on the above? Thank you!

@@Weownit69 unfortunately if you are sure it's a non turbo model I'm afraid we can only offer our pedal box. Manufacturers do have budgets to tune their cars, but they are generally building cars to suit worldwide markets and marketing goals. There is a lot of scope to make improvements not because we know something they don't, but because most of the time manufacturers are making less power to suit taxation strategies or so as not to outperform the next model in the range.
