TUNING BOXES!! Are They Any Good?

Hi lads, very informative. The reason I went for a Tdi tuning box was the capability of turning it off when just driving normally,and switch it on via Bluetooth, on the odd occasion i need a little extra. If a map had the capability of running stage 1 in Dynamic mode, 2016 Audi TTS, I would probably go for a custom map👍

I had a tuning box in my mk3 leon cupra. Quoted figure was something like 350hp. I never put it on a dyno so I dont know what it actually made but it was noticeably quicker than stock. But it just felt off? The gearbox didnt feel seem to like it and i just got the sense the car was struggling. Switched to a custome tune and the difference when out on the road was huge. Drive so much better and obviously with a TCU tune the gearbox is alot smoother and lightning quick on the changes. Custom tune all day long for me👍

MAP custom ECU tune is the only way to go!

Not with a modern BMW, locked DME....since 2020 .you can spend over a grand to send it to russia if you wish thats about it..

Could it be possible that the difference in smoothness of the torque curves is because at those revs it is where the house and emission testing is done? So the cars ecu will lean the car off at those revs. With the custom map where you have altered the fuel figures you have simply filled in that testing hole giving you a flatter curve?

Re the tendency for the clutch to slip, is this only when using the tuning box, or will it cause permanent premature wear? I've had a standard 2016 M4 for a few months and it feels like the clutch is slipping to me. It's a lot harder on these to test than a manual 🤔

I have been watching the Box tuning videos and I figured that if can be tuned off pretty easily which can significantly save fuel by running the car in stock using the app to turn it off or buy removing the box. So how easy is to do that on the ECU tuning? Or ones you get an upgrade. You must know that how your car is going to be like.

you can get these tuning boxes very cheap sometimes, i bought one for my bmw 218d 150bhp with as standard it said it would take it up 189bhp. it cost me £70 quid of ebay ''tigertuners'' haha and just pluged into the railpressure sensor. soon as i put it on i felt the extra tourqe instantly :). paid for a dyno run found out my car was 148 standard and the tuning box took it to 176!! that will do for me :) nearly 30 hp for 70 quid hahah 2 years later the the diesel racket of the injectors was like a tranny van hahahah took it back to bmw with the box off lols and they kept fogging me off, but i knew it was under warranty and they would never be able to prove i used a box eventually after 3 bmw dealerships they replaced all my injectors and intake manifold :) hahaha plus giving me a x2 for the weekend :) hahah first thing i did when i picked it up was drive round the corner and plug the box back in hahhaha ''hand on hart''haha moral of the story is if its under warrenty and its on lease, it dosnt matter if it fucks your car up!!!!! haha as they have to fix it!!! haha i wouldnt of bought my car after the lease was up anyway! hahaha but if i did buy a used car out of warranty, with my own money, a remap is the safest option
