With regards to asking for help with anything, as a new player, I avoided Google and just asked world chat. People were super helpful and usually got a correct answer to my issues right away.

There was a video that I watched, can't remember which off the top of my head, that I felt really nailed it. As a new player, one of the best feelings is to run around the world and explore. Once I finished the main quest for the first time, I ran around and found the majority of the nodes and npcs, just because I enjoyed exploring the world. Once I had discovered everything, I actually slowed down playing a little just because I had found it more fun to explore than to grind.

I'm glad I started BDO when I did (about 2 years ago) because I got to experience the old season system and build up a base of alts with fughar's timepiece, but the new player experience has been streamlined and improved in a lot of ways. You still need a PhD (or just google and a hundred different guides) to understand what anything is or how to do it, but in terms of the actual content and QOL everything's improving nearly every month.

When I first played BDO, I did so on a not-aging-well Lenovo Y50-70 touch laptop. This was back before covid was a thing, and I was able to actually afford to build a proper system. I played Mystic to level 56 without any help, buffs, or any real knowledge. I just ran around the map and hammered mobs focusing on down damage (my favorite attack was overhead kick knockdown). Once I got to 56 I didn't understand the awakening stuff (still don't, honestly). Everyone I knew looked at me like like I was dumb as a post for trying to plus Akum armor. I got lucky (for me) on the end of an event and got a Tri Ogre ring (I think it was Tri anyway...). I did a little research at the time, and found out that [supposedly] the best place to get Akum armor pieces was in the mountains outside of Duvencrune. So.. that's what I did. All 160AP of me with DP that was also low. Farmed blood wolves, while people thought I was absolutely INSANE. Spoiler alert.. I NEVER got any Akum drops. I also never used ANY of my cron or other upgrade items. I never learned fail stacking either. I tried my hand at horse taming. At first the minigame kicked the ever loving CRAP out of me and I rage quit several time (some of the issue was game lag due to the laptop, and also the fact that i was gaming using 4G cell data). However, I started to do horse taming and got mediocre at it (mediocre, because I never got past tier 6). Tried to do some of the connecting of cities and worker jobs and all of that, and just felt overwhelmed.. gave up... and went back to random boxing of mobs. All in all, I quit playing because I had nobody to game with. On top of going through some personal struggles. I also have a bit less "want" to play these days, mostly because I want to actually be on NA servers, and all my leveled stuff is on EU (I focused on EU early on, because the player base was less toxic to me). Plus, I have earned event rewards on EU I cant get on NA anymore. Like the dragon event Christmas pet from a couple of years ago. And, yes.. my character DOES still have her Akum gear, still lvl 56, and still poor as sin. If I ever did go back to BDO, I would 100% go back to being a mystic down focus menace. And I would probably not use awakening because I don't understand it. I know, I am a simpleton.. hulk punch thingy, thingy fall down. Mystic go rrrr, punchy punchy. OH, and even on my EU account, I have SOOOOOOOOOOOO many quests I never did. it got too boring and interfered with my punching. As a noobie intended server, they should take away the cron option for Tuvala enhancement on season servers. many new players fall for it, since they give crons for free with events, and newbies think is a common easy to obtain resource

playing this game for almost a decade I can appreciate whenever one of these "new player experience" videos pop up and scams a new wave of fresh meat to install the game just to get turned into content by whales and have their new player guilds get squished by whale guild politics. Ofc there's no pvx anymore because PA wants to build a streamer birdhouse to get that sweet free advertising, and it translates to a better new player experience, but there's still a wall to hit for people who dont want to spend money and don't want to work a second job playing korean mmo.

CLASSIC I think PA shall let you Try a class before create your character, they shall put an order to select a class and be able to go trial first without looking for it. Then inside the TRIAL arena, you could create your character when you feel ready with it

As for picking your class, I do agree about picking whatever you think is the most fun, not most OP. Because meta is always changing. I chose Drakania because grinding is fun with her. Yeah she gets pooped on in 1v1's I guess but who knows that all may change plus ill just be getting better in the meantime :)

i have 50h and i managed to get 3 lvl 60 characters. (one was from the time watch) and i probably coulda done it in less if i optimized my strats. first run took about 35 h to level 56 second run took about 6-8 if you play with guides and do it right this game is SUPER new player friendly now with seasonal characters IMO edit : not shitting anyones way of playing or opinion i just really wanted to share mine

When I started I thought family name was just like a "personal guild name" for my characters and people would talk to me as my character name, because of it I named myself LISAISQUEEN (as a fan of lisa from blackpink). Honestly the biggest barrier to getting into BDO in my experience is just the attacks and combos. It's hard to memorize my abilities and what they do and what the keybinds are when they're all like CTRL+F or CTRL+RMB, and then the combos the skill guide is showing me are all like "W + F -> S + LMB -> LMB + RMB" which is... not the easiest thing to get used to. Plus it's not incredibly clear as a new player which moves I should be using when or whatever. I'm not entirely new to MMOs, I played a couple hundred hours of New World and I'm 4 expansions into FFXIV, but BDO is a little bit more challenging for me to get into because of how all these attacks and combos are set up.

Mountain of Eternal Winter is probably worst start for the new player, because they make you run trough high AP grinding spot. Like, straight trough. One hit and you are dead. You can ride your horse through it, but its still very risky. Idk who thought thats good idea. LoML is not that bad because of scaling, but you will miss huge portion of backstory and...well its really weird place from cultural point of view. For new player with first character on the account, there should be no other option than Ancient Chamber, because its only start that gives some linear progression sense.

I just started BDO like 3 days ago, got to like 21.... started to feel overwhelmed and discouraged by all the systems and uninstalled yesterday. I was really enjoying the combat and just wanted more of that, but the dog water quest line/story and the not understanding the majority of what is going on with all these systems was too much. After having uninstalled for a day, I found myself reinstalling it again this morning. I just neeeeed more BDO. Why? Send help. (I also feel like I fcked up by picking Sorceress, but I dont want to reroll because all these rewards etc... like over 5k crons etc.)
