Must confess I ditched box ideas greater than 1 when I first learned Em; only seeing the horizontal, it's kinda odd, besides the scale is localised and there's alway two notes close by to help out; focus more on roots, blue notes or 3 7 9's. Sure I'll practice a new scale - worry that I don't know it but while doing so move freely between 12 frets quick enough due to boredom, too many to rote learn and so many modes, better off memorising songs and knowing you can ad lib in your preferred keys, while slowly adding to the rule book knowledge.
