BluGuitar Amp1 - Mercury Edition (BIG Amp, Small Size?)
Thomas Blug and his team are at it again with the Mercury Edition of the Amp1. I tried the original version and found it promising, although the bottom frequencies weren't nearly tight enough for my liking. That's one of the things that BluGuitar have supposedly improved on for this edition of the amp. The Amp1 is a pedalboar amp, small enough to fit into your gigbag, but with 100 watts of power. It should be big enough for everyone's needs. The Amp 1's power section features a nanotube, which is a novel approach. It's a slightly different kind of hybrid amp. According to Blug nanotubes are the future of tube (or valve) amps.

I appreciate the work you did here, you are the most critical review of this amp I've seen, I just wish you had explained more in detail what exactly falls short in comparison to your Plexi. You dismissed the Amp1 but didn't really explained why. Anyways, thank you again for the video and great playing

Hi Elmo, i would try turnung down the volume on the drive chanel, and increase the master to drive the nanotube harder. greatings
@kasakka
@kasakka 4 жыл бұрын
The way the poweramp works is that the nanotube is there to provide the feel and response of a tube amp or powertube distortion if you want by cranking the main master above 6. This is then fed to a 100W Class D solid-state poweramp to make it loud. I think it works tremendously well, I really like this amp a lot and I'll go as far as to say that it is the best Marshall style amp you can buy under 1000 euros. Especially the Vintage channel is awesome. The EQ is very powerful for finetuning the sound and even small changes have a big effect and the small knobs on the side offer even more tweakability.

owned 2 Fly Rigs, and own Bluguitar Amp 1 Mercury. They don't compare. Fly Rigs are more generic, digital modeler sounding, sounds fine. Bluguitar sounds like a real tube amp, excellent, inspirational. Sold both Fly rigs. Does Bluguitar sound awesome at all settings? No, no amp does. Does Bluguitar feel and sound exactly like a tube amp? No. Does Bluguitar sound better than my last twelve tube amps? Yes. Do all tube amps sound better than solid state or modeler amps? Heck no. I've owned more than 50 tube amps and over 20 solid state amps and over 10 modelers in the last 30 years.

Comparing to AXE-FX II and Fly Rig, you don't mention one very big advantage of Amp1 - it has a power amp, while axe and fly rig don't. Unless you're always going into interface, it is a big deal.

Elmo, as usual you sound fantastic on that Strat, I'd love to hear how that amp sounds with a humbucker guitar (like a Charvel) for what it is I think the amp sounded great and wouldn't need a pedal for distortion/overdrive. Don't get me wrong, I love pedals, most recently into your country folks, Mad Professor (love the 1 pedal, desperately trying to find the Bluebird) I do think the vintage channel sounded more Fender tweed than Marshall, thanks again for another stellar review, Bruce. PS. For what it is I think the amp is a bit too expensive.

@@MrPolevaulter Elmo man.....I would love for you to do a review of the Mad Professor 1 (dedicated to VH 1, I gather) it's got reverb too, great little pedal which does not do lite drive, lol, thanks much, and if you know anyone who has a Mad Professor Bluebird they wanna sell, that's got drive and delay, Bruce.

Interesting. I can't see spending that much money on it. The inventor / German blues guy Thomas is a killer player. For me, if I was going to spend that much money I would buy a used tube amp. 😂 That's easy for me to say thouugh as I don't have to do fly gigs. Even then I'd still use the tech 21 flyrig that I tried and thought sounded really close once I dialed it in. I was playing it direct thru the PA into a mixer and it was sounding pretty damn good. 😂😉.. Love your playing man.. Keep up the good work on the channel..Great stuff...

I thought that it sounded pretty good for the space saved and weight but nothing can replace a Plexi, eh Elmo?? I use a Bandmaster and an Egnater Tourmaster which I stereo using two sets of 2x Vintage 30s and find a good sound with the 6L6s in the Bandmaster and the contrast of the ecc83s and 6L6s in the Tourmaster. I really must get a Plexi one of these days though. Great demo mate, as per. Take care.

Sounded great to me. Plus tweaking the controls on the side would give you another spectrum of different amps. I've seen other demos with Mr Blug whereas he does the tweaking to exact, so to speak, where he dials in the sound of other amps. I know that's not your game. Just saying. But for someone who performs many different types of music,this could be very handy. Not to mention that you can save some presets. You did give it a better score than I thought you would. Good demo.

It's a different thing. The BOSS is an effects processor and amp modeller - meaning you would still need an amp. The Amp1 is an actual amp (over 100 watts) with only a boost and reverb effect. The Amp1 is analog (except the reverb) whereas the Boss is digital. The Amp1's sound quality is far superior.
