So much guitar gear is 99% hype 1% substance. Thomas Blug is the complete opposite of that. He has amazing knowledge of why amps sound the way they do.

I compared my BluGuitar 1 with my Carr Mercury V (a $2400.00 amp ) It was so close I felt sick to my stomach....lol The BluGuitar amp 1 cannot be beat for portability and great tones.

Best demo I’ve seen for the Amp1. The new Mercury Edition sounded fantastic. And it was a pleasure just watching Thomas Blug doing all that tone matching. Very impressive.

I can't help myself but thinking that Thomas didn't do a lot and it should be possible to do this too as a mere mortal. I know that's because Thomas knows exactly what and how to do, but I should be able to get the same results given more time.

That's the hope at least. But what is fascinating to me was how he could quickly dial it in while listening to one amp then need only 'minor' adjustments when they'd switch and it shows just how well Thomas knows his gear which would only come from truly using/believing in 'his' product. Can't wait to see more of the Mercury edition and to see it come across the Atlantic.

Thomas is the best. I love that he says there are qualities to the other amps that he likes, sometimes even more than his amp. So honest, so cool.

This is a good piece of proof that differences between the actual amps are often really subtle. When people compare "amps" they mostly compare cabs.

F**king incredible! He tone matched everything except the last amp perfectly...in some cases the blu amp sounded better in an undescribable way. Even on the last one, it wasn't bad, just a different cue on the mids or something, but the same tone more or less. I'd love to see this done with a Mesa Triple crown or Revv Generator 120...maybe the next vid will have those?

Markus Nowak yeah, when I got my AMP1 2 years back I owned a couple of very nice high end valve amps. I assumed AMP1 would be a cool backup or for smaller gigs and short support slots where lugging loads of gear seemed excessive. After a few shows I didn’t just think it was ‘alright’ but started to prefer it - way easier to be punchy and cut through than my OR100 for a start, so much as I liked that amp I had to admit it wasn’t going to get used much anymore and I put it up for sale.
@UnknownHumanoid
@UnknownHumanoid 6 жыл бұрын
I'm shocked every time I play it. For me it's the main amp and it will remain so. I use mainly the modern channel and the clean. BTW. I'm using an Orange cab 12x2 and it sounds incredible. The amp shines above 7 volume and it's a killer, so a good attenuator is very important. PS: it's funny to say this would be a backup amp. Actually I'm gonna buy another one as a backup!

@@UnknownHumanoid I'm curious, have you considered using the Remote 1 to utilize the Power Soak feature to handle your attenuator needs?
@UnknownHumanoid
@UnknownHumanoid 6 жыл бұрын
@@adamdagosto570 Remote1 is very limited comparing with the G Lab GSC-4 System Controller, plus you can use G Lab MIDI 4x Loop for the loop effects (10 pedals in total). You have also 6x9V on it! The buttons on Remote1 are having a very sensitive click for the foot and it's hard to tell if you clicked it or not. Very annoying. I prefer sturdy classic ones. Overall Remote1 is a very bad solution and I don't know if Thomas considered to make a better one.

@@UnknownHumanoid He is cooking up an Amp X which is pretty crazy. With this in mind, Thomas and his team developed the gound-breaking Neural Analog Amp™ design, which offers the capability to edit and save analog circuit parameters at a component level - like a "virtual soldering iron“ for analog amp tuning. Today’s standard in Guitar speaker simulation is convolution technology using impulse responses (so-called IRs). IRs deliver a precise frequency response of the respective speaker - but only at a static volume. www.bluguitar.com/amp-x/en/

I own one. I gig with it. People flip out when they see it. They can't wrap their head around it. It is an amazing piece of gear. A work of art. The only problems I have is figuring what pedals I wanna run with it. (that's not a problem, that's fun!) I love adding a pedal boost, and leaving it on all the time for a right on the edge of an overdriven clean tone. (you also have the boost on the blu guitar amp as well) Then I roll my volume back on my guitar. I use the vintage channel on 3-4 gain. That gives me 3 different types of clean tones. I control it all with just the volume knob on my guitar. I have two overdrive pedals as well. With the vintage channel on 3-4 I can use either overdrives for two totally different tones or both together. So many flavors of tone. After a gig guys will say, "man you get so many different sounds out of that rig." Another trick you can do is to run the tone knobs high on the amp, and then cut the tone knobs on your guitar way back. Lots of times during a solo you don't need extra volume, just a little more tone will cut right through.

So from the video I'd have to say that the Amp1 didn't have as "round" of a sound as the real amp. To be fair, when he was switching back and forth in short intervals I couldn't tell, and also there were moments where I just couldn't tell period, but the Amp1 seemed to have that slightly thinner sound to it, typical of solid state. My question is if you just dial up a nice clean tone (possible?) and use pedals, if the thinness goes away?

@TheOligoclonalBand
@TheOligoclonalBand 6 жыл бұрын
According to the manual, the boost is a two-stage tube simulation before the channels. The boost can be set with a knob on the side from clean and transparent to overdrive. This boost is an overall boost, so you may have to dial it in that it fits for all sounds you want to use a boost for. But it seems pretty versatile.

Would it be even possible to do an hardwired Amp1 - with standard components instead of SMD an in in a bigger housing of course - or is the number of components just too huge to even try? The early prototypes must have been some kind of hardwired thing, right?

If this thing had a built in looper I’d be sold. I’m not talking about the FX looper extension kit, but a looper that records and then loops short bits of music. It takes 2.2 US pounds ta make 1 kg. English or UK pounds are available in a vast variety and there is one which suits Thomas' claim for "2 pounds makes 1.2 kg." Well in the end it's 1.2 kg and Thomas is a very decent guy. Met him several times on music shows and he always was a polite sport (which my friends and I weren't) and no BS. Having said that..... I don't visit any more industry shows and I haven't played Thomas' stuff. But I will. Thomas really knows his amp settings. Through the internet, the sounds of the different amps and the Bluguitar amp were almost the same. Some were the same. Anybody seeing this video, who is a professional guitarist, and doesn't buy this amp (or their metal focused Iridium) are wasting their money and their backs buying other amps. I live as a roommate and must use headphones all of the time. They even complain about my laptop speakers being loud. Whenever the time comes, and I live in a better place, one of the Bluguitar amps will be mine if I ever need to play professionally.

So what is the difference from the old Amp1 to the mercury? Btw pretty impressive job tone matching the amps from Thomas. That guy sure knows what he’s doing. And shows that we more often than not do listen with our eyes as much as with our ears!

I spoke to Kai from BluGuitar at the Musikmesse and according to him (I hope I recall correctly) the Modern channel got more bite and they made changes in how the EQ reacts to make the Classic and Modern channel tighter. Also they overhauled the Reverb (no biggie for me as I have my external effects and prefer delay to reverb anyway). The Mercury Edition should be out towards the end of the year and will have a slight price increase (apparently not much. But since they kept the price the same since introduction, a few Euros more don't matter much in my opinion) I hope that helps.

I am confused. Is he demoing the "new Mercury Edition" or the original Amp 1? Besides, Thomas Blug ears always impress me :D

It seems to me that this is the Mercury Edition - else the title wouldn't fit.

In Hennings video it is the new Mercury edition. The current version sound pretty similar on Clean, but the drive channels are different...

ThomasBlug Thanks Thomas, I was wondering exactly that because I own the current version and I use the clean with boost engaged 90% of the time :)

Interesting that I can hear the difference in the signal body from the power amp through KZbin, but the reviewers do not acknowledge it.

Did you create that glitchy graphic or did you find a template it is really cool, personally trying to hone my AE skills to do similar graphics for my own videos, your graphics are always hard to compete with, mainly asking because you seem too busy to sit and spend hours in AE.

I spoke to Kai from BluGuitar at the Musikmesse. The Mercury Edition will come out later this year and will be a replacement for the old Amp1. Since they had the same price since introduction, they will raise the price a tiny bit. Kai told me maybe about 50 Euros more - which is completely justified in my opinion.

Why? None of the heads in this video are stereo either. If you want stereo, use a stereo FX processor - done...
@poulwinther
@poulwinther 6 жыл бұрын
Because then you can compare it to TWO heads. The brilliance of Amp 1 is in the way that the nano tube drives the power section. Adding a stereo processing unit doesn't exactly add another creamy tube'ish power section and to have it you would need two Amp 1's. However, everything else in the design makes it absolutely perfect for a small full-blown stereo rig with only the processor added in the loop. Or if you want the short answer to "why?": Because I NEED it! :-)
