I feel it should be pointed out- the nano-tube in there is a real- genuine working tube. " Thomas Blug worked with Russian scientists who never left tube technology- American techs moved on to semiconductors , but the Russian's just refined and miniaturized tubes into a completely reliable and shock-resistant tube technology to work in their military and space programs- the sub-miniature vacuum tube is characterized by it's lower noise levels at high input resistance and lower internal capacitance. This results in outstanding musical properties- there are clearly superior to conventional tubes in efficiency, energy consumption and reliability. Thanks to it's mechanical strength they can be constructed without a socket an firmly soldered in place- in comparison with classic tubes- sub-miniature tubes are almost 'indestructible" and require no maintenance." The do indeed work in the power amp and provides AMO1 with 100 watts of character, punch and power." - From the user manual.

But what is that tube used for? I understand it's part of the power section and not the preamp section? Is all overdrive/gain achieved using this tube hence rendering it as power stage distortion? Or does it not have anything to do with the overdrive/distortion tones generated by this amp? If so, how is distortion generated... perhaps by some solid state circuitry? Impressed by the tones, but I'd like to know more.

I've always thought the BluGuitar boxes have better core tones than any of the digital modellers. Really lifelike and complex base tones (possibly because it's more of a real amp than a modeller?) I've never tried one but I also bet they inject a great feel through the strings.

They are not Modellers but what they are is real Amps! And many Pros as well as Thomas Blug himself proofed they are as loud as the "real Deal" and could sound nearly identically to most Amps out there. Nice review! It sounds good, but compared to your Iridium review, you have too much treble (and maybe mids) dialed in here, which makes it sound a bit thin and fizzy. In the Iridium review, where you have the treble at around 3, you say that compared to the mercury it sounds much nicer. I bet that if you lower the treble to around 5 or below on the ME, it will make it sound nice and creamy too :). The EQ on this amp is incredibly important, so try it out! :D

Sounds insane in your demo. But - maybe I'm missing something - without the extra remote controller if the channels share all the controls and I want to switch from clean with gain low to another channel with gain set higher that wouldnt work without turning the knob, right? That turns me off quite a bit to be honest since the point is to have all in one tiny box and makes the switching on the amp1 itself kind of useless. this remote thing seems bigger than the actual amp, is another 300 bucks and seems to not be widely available. Just when I thought this could be the one. I will try it anyway. Thanks for the demo.
@MS-Patriot22 жыл бұрын
I thought the same, however you can set different gain and overall tone for the overdrive channels using those little side controls. If you want to increase volume level too, you can, but need to do this via a MIDI CC input. I just got one s/h off Reverb and so far I’m very impressed, coming from a background of playing years of tube amps in a live situation. The speaker choice has a big impact on the tone, I’m using an Orange PPC112, with a Celestion Vintage 30, which works for me. It’s worth downloading the German/English language manual to get a feel for the modes. Thomas Blug also has tons of stuff on KZbin where he’s very open about the design and getting the most out of this very well designed unit.

I have both- a Katana 100 and the Amp1. I use the Katana primarily because I mounted mine in a 1x15 tweed cabinet and it sounds ridiculously good and is light-weight- so I don't have to carry a pedalboard to gigs- the Katana does it all- however the Amp1 sounds so good and really cuts through a live mix, I've found, better then the Katana- so I'm putting together a cab and "pedalboard" for the Amp1 too- because it uses a real tube I find it just cuts through a mix better- but then I have to carry 3 things (guitar- cab and pedalboard).
@srsanders4553 жыл бұрын
Mike, for a lightweight giging amp its really hard to beat the katana, and the MKII gives you stereo expand capability. You can literally buy two of the 100 watt Katana's run them in stereo with the GA FC foot switch pedal and Boss volume/EXP pedal and be done for around 1K. :) The Amp1 is really nice, but a whole different level of expense/rig complexity if you like effects. :)

@@srsanders455 , sounds to me like the better deal? But sound wise the comparison would be a different thing?

@@kmichaelp4508 Mike I think you are right. With two Amp1s, two nice speaker cabs, several stereo effect pedals, all the amp1 accessories, loop switcher, foot pedal etc, it would sound awesome, and be pretty light weight/modular. But the complexity and price of the rig goes through the roof. However, if you add a really nice drive pedal in front of the Katanas like a Mesa Boogie Gold Mine (200 bucks brand new) the difference is even less between the two rigs. Tubes always win though imo, even micro ones. :)

Tried it at the music store I was so deceived you better have to go with the hugues and kettner black spirit. Me I went with the nextone artist instead... Though, I'm pretty sure the bluamp iridium delivers what's intended. My instinct rarely miss the target.

For about $400 more you can get an Axe FM3.....

But it isn't an amp right? This one is 100W amp. Not a damn digital modeler.

@@shaharbar it's not that simple anymore. Plenty of fantastic emulators out there and plenty of shite "real things"

@@ilmisxx2 I think it is simple, however, I do agree that the difference is not really noticeable audibly, I’m strictly referring to latency.
@ilmisxx23 жыл бұрын
@@shaharbar what latency? With good interface you get maybe 3-7ms with the speed of sound through air you get same latency standing next to a speaker cab

It's nice for a bedroom virtuoso, but when you play live with loads of gain and you want the solo sound to be 10 dB louder your f*cked.
@andyfenton15103 жыл бұрын
Volume boost in the loop, or just plain old volume pedal or volume knob on the guitar all work fine. Sure if you’re playing a hi gain sound and it’s already compressed, a boost pedal isn’t going to do much, but that’s the same with any amp.
@tonystartup38172 жыл бұрын
Boosts into the front of an amp always add compression rather than volume once you've run out of clean headroom, this is the same with any amp. However, with the remote 1 (or via midi commands) you can set up a second master volume so you can instantly switch sounds levels keeping everything else sounding the same if you do wish. Problem solved

KZbin, stop showing ads with mostly just one ethnicity. How pathetically pandering of you, especially when they make up just 13% of the US population.

@@MisterTee In Australia they're $1800 brand new. That's not affordable at all.

That price is crazy compared to other countries. I guess if you want one you could order from a different country?
@hootowl63543 жыл бұрын
How can they be $1,800 in Australia when they are $800 in the U.S.? That makes no sense. Australia is a free-market economy as much as anywhere else. Can't you just order one off Sweetwater or similar and have it shipped to you?
@chriswalton33833 жыл бұрын
@@hootowl6354 I know, look them up in Australia if u can. They're $1499, not $1800. They're $799 USD. I see one on reverb for $879 though. I'm not sure about shipping but it'll come close to full price if not more. .

I was tempted to give this amp a try until I read your comment. I'm very particular about my tone. What cab were you using or were you going into an interface->computer?
