Euge... I've watched this a dozen times, and the interview with Thomas Bluge. I have a pinched nerve in my back and had given up playing out, due to the weight of carrying all my gear. You convinced me to buy the Iridium model, and man it sounds better than the video shows. I had my first practice tonight and only had to carry one bag with my BluGuitar, effects pedal, cables in it, my guitar, and a 2x12 cab. The other guitar player in my band has a 1973 Twin Reverb - those things are heavy and loud - I am running the Mercury Amp1 into a 1x12 and we sound fantastic together...master volume of the Amp1 never exceeds 4 and there are no issues with hearing both guitars.

Great review! No wonder Ben Granfelt uses these (the Mercury edition IIRC) nowadays, watched a live gig stream from him and a couple of others during this lockdown. Not related to this product, but Granfelt was a long time Engl Blackmore user too :) Now, I don't remember if he perhaps used the (rarish) Slowhand or Fasthand editions of the Blackmore head, or the regular one. He was actually one of the reasons why I got one and still love it.

😎 The Bad Boy is unique but a little tweaking & AMP1 is pretty much indentical. When I did a live stream with Thomas Blug a while ago he tweaked it so well that I couldn’t tell the difference when we did a blind test. I was blown away. Again 😎.

Hey Euge, I really love your 800 sound. Great playing. In this video you only play Iridium. You actually say on the end, that Mercury Classic Channel sounds better on Iridium, but do you get good 800 Bad Boy tones out of the Mercury? I have Mercury and don´t know, if I should buy a Iridium? :)

Thanks! I think I played the Mercury too. Both are awesome, especially the Classic channel’s 800 style crunch. On the Iridium it’s just a bit more aggressive like The Bad Boy is just a bit more aggressive than most 800s 💪👌.

Great demo and playing! Actually, the 100W doesn't come from this nanotube, this is just there to simulate the sound behavior of a tube power amp. It works on low power levels, but after that, the real power stage is a class-d amp. So there should be no interaction between the speaker load and the power amp as you assumed. ;)

I play the AMP1 Mercury on all my cruise ship shows and it is a game changer - killer tones. HOWEVER -- it does NOT top the tone of a GOOD vintage 100w Marshall head - which i obviously use on local shows, not fly dates.. Can't wait for the AMP X to be released by the ever humble Thomas Blug.

Yeah it works really well on all volume levels and works great without a cab too directly in the mixer / PA. The response is a bit different obviously than with a load (cab or reactive load) but I got it really close with a Neunaber Iconoclast speaker emulator since we don’t use cabs in Cyhra but just DI and in-ears.

If I understand correctly, it's a bit different than a tube amp. It actually is a solid state power section, so the tube doesn't make it loud. The tube is involved into the power section though and it makes it sound more organic than a traditional solid state power amp. It is (like you mentioned) not a modeling amp. The preamp section doesn't have a tube if I remember correctly, but it's all real circuit based sound and not computer stuff like Kemper. Have seen many reviews of the thing and it seems to be a fantastic piece of gear. Best review of this thing so far, because it seemed very authentic :) I bet, Thomas Blug could dial them in even closer. He knows his shit very well. Used to work as an amp designer for Hughes & Kettner for years, but eventually wanted to do his own stuff. He's a great guitar player too :) Thanks for this great review.

Euge, the million dollar question is BLUGUITAR AMP 1 Iridium or Marshall SC-20H? perhaps they are on even ground as being CLOSE to the big boy sound?

Thank you for the video, keep them coming! Btw, allow me to recommend you a St. Rock React:IR. It is a reactive load + IR loader like Suhr + great attenuator. To use one single unit instead of multiple. Cheers!

Incredible! Really sounded like the 800. And has a good price compared to a 100w Marshall head (850 usd here in US vs 3200 usd Marshall head). Have you tried it connected to the iconoclast ?. Would you use it live, replacing the Friedman be_od? Not only sounded good, but impressed that it is very portable

No I haven’t but should work just fine since you can actually bypass the IR from the BluGuitar’s rec out so it’ll be a direct signal and then use the Iconoclast as the cab / speaker 💪. I haven’t decided yet but probably yes ’cos like I said this feels & sounds like playing with my Bad Boy and no other amp, pedal or whatever has had that before 👌.

Thanks! You (or at least I) can dial pretty much all the sounds I can think of from both but the Iridium is just a bit more punchier IMO 👌.

I have played the last „Die Krupps“ tour in Europe with three amps (modded Marshall, Fryette Deliverance 120 and a Laney mixed) and started to use the Iridium (back then, that still was a pre production Prototype #3) after the first four or five shows additionally to the real amps. Two shows later we stopped using the tube amps, as the Iridium’s signal was good enough and is a „no-brainer“ for the guitar tech/crew.... Very good product!!!
