It's an umbrella, it's supposed to keep the rain off you. In 50mph++ gusting winds, no umbrella is going to stop you from getting wet. But at least this one won't end up torn, ripped, inside out and in the trashcan.

in NZ, the rain comes with the wind so it is pointless to use an umbrella when it rain

Notice how they always hold the outside edge against the incoming wind, but a "standard" umbrella they tilt slightly upwards so the wind pushes from underneath. Not a fair comparison, made the whole video pointless to me.
@thesciple4846

The wind forces the umbrella to tilt until it comes to a point where its impossible to regain the balance of the umbrella causing it to break

But it’s still a fact that blunt umbrella can resist most real life wind while normal ones just can’t

This 'test' was conducted by a Blunt Umbrella employee. This isn't a test, it's an ad.

The umbrella would rip out of his hand unless he's tied to it. Then it'd be like what a parachute would do under the same conditions.

TechInsider's video (in related videos) shows it taking wind from all directions. Certainly in an ideal world you keep it pointed into the wind. But in a real storm, especially around buildings, gusts come from any direction. I don't care that much that an umbrella stays right-side out, but it has to be able to take wind (and possibly being flipped inside-out) without getting bent up.

The only annoying thing about an umbrella that doesn't buckle is, if the wind catches it and you're a lighter person, that umbrella is going to carry you away.

why would you use an umbrella in a hurricane? daft bugger
@Szenfai
@Szenfai 8 жыл бұрын
+Little Slingy because i would and i wont use an umbrella for display, im from a country that gets hurricanes 20 plus times a year and trust me you would want a reliable umbrella. Also keep your insults to yourself, it speaks highly of how low your IQ is
@littleslippy8924
@littleslippy8924 8 жыл бұрын
+Gallant Cooper steady on matey, surely you can not judge what my iq is from one comment? one which you have deemed insulting to yourself, but calling someone a daft bugger is, at the most, a light comical description of someone who wishes to use an umbrella during a hurricane, one could suggest, that you must be one 'sookie la la' to feel aggrieved at such a thing, now putting your 'very unfriendly, touchy and rude' attitude aside, I would suggest you try out this umbrella, as when the average umbrella is blown inside out that would normally mean it goes into the bin, but this umbrella doesn't break, it just goes back to normal, and you know what else, it comes with a 2 year warranty, which is pretty ace for an umbrella, $130 in new zealand dollars mind you, ...now see? it's much nicer to use the internet for knowledge rather than to try to put others down, and don't be so quick to be insulted over nothing. (and as a side note, i would probably just wear a damn good rain coat instead, you daft bugger)

honestly this umbrella is a mediocre theres alot of almost same quality and alot cheaper i wouldnt buy that thing really. Also using raincoat is a bad idea especially when using mass transport, in a crowded "sardine canned" scenario. Top it off as were on the top most humid country, you dont want to experience sweating your balls in a raincoat while in a cold hard rain, to tell you im saying this based on my experience. Again id reiterate to you, i live in a country that gets hurricane a minimum of 20 per year. And you basically live in a place where, what? 1 hurricane a year? Ofcourse you wouldnt use umbrellas at the strongest. but there would be those times that you will be caught unprepared and a handy, durable umbrella would be a live saver in the insulting portion, havent your parents told you when your a child to not call names? Really, you would even justify yourself because its a small thing? Thats whats wrong with people. An insult is a insult there is no big or small in it. And now you call me unfriendly, and rude, because i insulted you for a truth I saw on your intelligence? You should even thanked me for pointing it out for you. It would be alright to insult me if i know you personally but who are you to call me? Put it in this way, if you say that infront of me and not in the internet, you would be lying on the ground. Good day and good bye

Try again. The test that really matters is testing it in reverse. This is aggravating.
@DamianRangi
@DamianRangi 10 жыл бұрын
When you're using an umbrella, wouldn't you face it toward the wind because that's the direction the rain would be coming from? Unless you want to go sailing.
@jimzheng4912

If you test it in reverse, you would want the damn thing to break/flip, unless you want to fly off and hit a bus.
@vash01000100
@vash01000100 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, but when you hold it up normally for rain, wind can hit the ground and lift up. Thus, a test for the reverse is also needed for real world application.

umbrellas are firstly for use again RAIN. not wind. wind never blows in a straight line as in this 'test.' put this into a real scenario, with rain and wind from all directions, when ALL umbrellas flip inside out (even ones with flaps that are supposed to prevent that exact behavior). I do not believe for a second that this umbrella would NOT have flipped inside out (and broken apart) if he'd turned it against the wind.
@Axys_0_Rex

I had one, and while it was prone to inverting, it never broke. Just flip it back and carry on. Unfortunately, these things don't protect you from leaving them on trains :(

Rain sometimes comes with wind though. Anyways experiments are run with controls and variables in place. What you are suggesting can be done, but you would be introducing at least 2 more variables: assuming you're standing on flat ground, the angle of the stem of the umbrella with respect to the ground and the angle of precession with respect to the wind source, if the umbrella isn't always held at a 90-degree angle with the flat plane of the ground. I do have one of these umbrellas and they do flip inside out, but they're actually quite easy to flip back to their original shape without any permanent damage to the frame. The umbrellas are quite expensive, but I haven't had a need to replace the Blunt umbrella I have now. Are these umbrellas indestructible? probably not, but they are very durable. The wondrous thing about science is that you can do the experiment yourself, but not everyone would be able interpret the data, when you present it to a public audience. This was just a simple test, which though may be lacking in your opinion, still showcased this umbrella's reliability against high winds in at least one case scenario.
