See how Bluray and the late HD DVD discs were made.
The databits channel is pleased to provide you with the best in new tech, vintage and oddity gadgets, media formats, repair projects, electronic experiments and restorations of thrift store finds. There are also many "how to" and instructional titles. The goal is to search through garage sales, antique malls and resale shops for gadgets you didn't know existed, electronic toys you had as a kid, stereo or turntables your parents used or a film projector your school used to teach you valuable lessons. Typically we produce one video a week with several trips to a thrift store per month. Sometimes, through research, an item is searched for on ebay and purchased for review. A list of some of the most popular items watched here on the channel are: record cutting on various materials, DLP television repairs, VCR's, Camcorders, turntables, record players, records, car reviews and dictation equipment.

I feel for these guys, the movie studios & networks probably put them outta business...the home Blu-ray video recorders never came. Once hdmi was rolled out, it included hdcp, which prevented up from recording tv shows & movies off cable. This greatly decreased the use of bd-r's. There are of course ways around it, but not for the average consumer. You could use them for data, but with sd's getting bigger & cheaper, a lot of people didn't adopt Blu-ray burners. You'd be hard up finding a store nowadays that sell bd-r's...I have to order mine from Japan!

Imagine if we could use gamma rays to read discs seeing that they have the shortest wavelength of all electromagnetic waves. 0.01 nm compared to 405 nm
@databits
@databits 10 жыл бұрын
Brandon Fisher You should invent that! That's a great idea. Gamma rays are also blamed for making Bruce Banner the Incredible Hulk. So maybe we could call the new format Incredible Discs?

databits Just imagine how much better the capacity of "Gamma-Ray discs", "G-Ray" or "Incredible Discs" would be compared to Blu-Ray discs if we could get pass the massive dangers that short wavelength light (electromagnetic radiation) such as x-rays and gamma rays possess.

@Paul68595 - Theres no comparison to Memorex Audio Tapes. Memorex is now a subsidiary of Imation. It's just a name. We've used hundreds of their DVD-R's and CD-R's and never had one chip. TDK brand CD-R's are also made by Imation (Memorex).

I've been researching on how blu rays were made since they seem very interesting. However, can anyone explain to me what they think these black things are on my Xbox One blu ray disc? I've used Imation/3M 5.25" disks, 2.5" disks(yes both 720K and 1.44Mb), CD-r's, DVD-r's and now Blu Ray'rs and there right up there with Kodak, Verbatim etc. I've always found it's better to pay for a good name brand than the happy lucky dragon brands out there. Good brand names will almost mean 'zero frisbies' where as a cheapo brand will feature up to half the discs useless. Another factor of course is having decent quality burner drives. You can't blame the media if you have a 2nd hand flogged out burner unknown misc cheapo brand. There are reasons why certain devices are cheaper than others. Don't do it to yourself. Get decent quality and have success, versus constant fails. The time wastage is not worth it.

HDDVD uses same laser as Blu ray disc so why can’t Blu ray players play HDDVD.
@Mike-77-YT
@Mike-77-YT 4 жыл бұрын
HD DVD has a similar layering to DVD. A blu ray player will try to read it but since it relies on the layer closer to the laser, it cannot focus to the layer. Even if the laser was modded, it won't play the disc anyway due to the different codec both formats have.

@Mike-77-YT
@Mike-77-YT 4 жыл бұрын
An extra disc layer will only give a slight capacity boost. It usually wouldn't multiply on the timetable set. See TechnologyConnection's videos about DVD for more info.
