It's also annoying because there's been rumors about him getting traded to the Rangers since the Sather days when he wasn't a playoff performer yet

Been a fan for 45 years and this has been one of the most difficult stretches I can recall - in part because of the expectations coming off last year. They need to address the lack of physicality and forecheck intensity of this team. To me this has been a fundamental identity question for a few years. Two ways we could look at this… 1. Physicality: Look at the hits per game for each player and compare to league average for their position and minutes played. 2. Forecheck: Look at average time in offensive zone 5v5 and compare to league average and top teams. My hypothesis is that they are well below average here. And this is about a mentality, effort…AND the players they have on the roster. Look at the last 10 years of Stanley Cup Winners: 2024: Florida Panthers, Coach Paul Maurice 2023: Vegas Golden Knights, Coach Bruce Cassidy 2022: Colorado Avalanche, Coach Jared Bednar 2021: Tampa Bay Lightning, Coach Jon Cooper 2020: Tampa Bay Lightning, Coach Jon Cooper 2019: St. Louis Blues, Coach Craig Berube 2018: Washington Capitals, Coach Barry Trotz 2017: Pittsburgh Penguins, Coach Mike Sullivan 2016: Pittsburgh Penguins, Coach Mike Sullivan 2015: Chicago Blackhawks, Coach Joel Quenneville 2014: Los Angeles Kings, Coach Darryl Sutter I suspect these teams were near the very top on these stats. Florida of course is the prototype for this. There are other factors of course (great goaltending) but this is what it takes to win at the highest level. So, that leads me to the unfortunate conclusion that they do need to make some pretty fundamental changes.

Those saying Mika’s NMC makes him impossible to trade are the same folks who said Trouba’s $8M salary is impossible to clear from the Rangers’ books. But IT HAPPENED. So no one should be amazed if the same happens to Mika. How? Look at his playing time against St. Louis. Only 13 minutes. That’s notable. Imagine Mika becoming a bottom 6 forward & demoting him from #1 PP…those are tactics that could be used to make Mika feel uncomfortable in NY. If Zibs thinks he can dog it for the rest of his contract & get away with it, then the team should make it clear that he’ll be humiliated in the process…& that the only way out of that scenario would be for him to waive his NMC.

Can't speak for other teams do. RW does not have a player of value to others that makes it possible to complete larger trades. All of this is on S.Y's head as he does stupid things like signing expensive contracts for subpar players, or sending players away with bonuses (e.i wallman). When it comes to using picks, S.Y is completely handicapped (locked in his mind) to use picks for an offensive action. Cat & Larks are two players that could be used in future trades, as neither of them is part of the future core (time-wise), that core only consists of MO/Edv & Lukas today. A lot is in the RW pipe if most turn out well, otherwise through upcoming drafts or deals.
