@NothingToPointOut243 сағат бұрын
Sabres seem to always follow a very specific script. Decent start - everyone get excited. Completely fall of a cliff - everyone bails and says they sucks. Strong finish but miss out on the playoffs - everyone considers them a team on the rise and likely to end their playoff brought the next season Repeat
@icecoldpolitics88902 сағат бұрын
The false hope of them missing by one point two seasons ago is what I think really killed it. Eichel got moved and Buffalo fans seemed excited again because the team had a new feel and face to it. Then the next season they miss by one point it’s crazy but people feel like that’s it they are about to break in. Unlike every season prior which had them well below the line now they were sniffing it. Then they fell back again and I think that’s what truly has killed this fanbase.

@@ryanj357 Buffalo has been supported hockey teams before they had an NHL team, in fact the last Championship in Buffalo was the Calder Cup for the Buffalo Bisons of the AHL, in 1969-70. They are a great hockey market, and if teams like Toronto can do well and be a contender, with the same weather. Then it's not the market at issue. This isn't an Arizona like problem, Arizona had one Conference final run, and never had success otherwise. The Sabers have had success and have been a contender. It was a long while ago. So I have said this before: it’s been 13 years for Buffalo, but only 4 years for Adams. He is not the problem Buffalo fans. He took a dumpster fire of a franchise and has been building it slowly through the draft going net out (how it is suppose to be done). This team is missing 2 things. 1. A steady veteran defender to help cover up the growing pains of a young defensive core. Look how much just adding Jensen to Ottawa’s back end solidified it. 2. A Gary Robert’s like veteran who can show up, take control of the room (and not necessarily be the captain just an influential voice) and teach the team what it takes to win. Ironically, I think Ryan O’Reilly would be a good fit. Now that Botterill is gone, he may give the organization a chance (he also doesn’t have a no trade so….) I honestly think Adams has the cap space he does just incase a player like these two come available. As Shannon said, Buffalo could make a pitch to Vancouver for Pettersson and not have to shed too much salary in the return lowering Pete’s trade value. Over spending on UFAs does not fix the team, it hinders it. But knowing Pegula, he’s about to do something drastic and fire Adams and replace him with the mandate to win now which will not end well.

@FischerFan3 сағат бұрын
Pertaining to the ten consecutive losses, only two of them have been by more than two goals. Aside from the clunker against Utah, they've been in their games. Tage Thompson has improved his numbers, but like Connor Bedard, he can't be expected to carry an entire team. The Sabres GF and GA both fail to make the top 20 in the League, and their power play is anemic at 30th overall. When you're going on 14 years without a playoff berth, it no longer matters what the climate and taxes are. Players want to be on teams that have, at the very least, some kind of shot at the playoffs. They don't want to be in depressing situations where a team always finds itself challenged. What should the Sabres do now? If you can win a couple of trades that can add depth to your forward lines, that could be a short-term solution. The long-term one would be to tank and try to win the draft lottery.

Up front, not a Sabres fan, so I don’t follow them too closely. However, I don’t see the trades inherently being the issue. I think the Eichel trade specifically is, but as a symptom of the problem, not the problem itself (for context, I was very supportive of Eichel being able to get the surgery, bc I don’t think teams should get any say in what treatment a player can get). However, I think the bigger issue is player development and free agency, which I think are related. I think they’ve drafted okay, given their options, but they’ve not done spectacularly bringing them to that next level, and I think their inability to attract a big time free agent veteran mentor is a big part of why they r stuck in the much for so long. As a baseball fan, I remember my nationals struggling for so long, and even if his actual production wasn’t spectacular l, the presence of a guy like Jason Werth in the locker room was huge to help lead a young, talented, but seemingly unable to get over the hump core (same with bringing in Gio Gonzalez). I think if Buffalo were able to attract a couple big name free agents, and then get them to re-sign or extend, that would snowball for them. It would help strengthen that core, mentor young players, and signal to other free agents that this is a place to play

I just hope they snap out of it because I have Luokkonen in fantasy😭 he was actually pretty good until he stopped getting W's

The problem with taking a very early 2-0 lead is that you give the other team plenty of time to catch up and have you falling apart

Or you could just keep your foot on the gas and not let up like they do every night. Asking pros in the NHL to play a full 60 minutes every night should be the bare minimum rather than a big ask

It’s weird but I think they’re in a place where they have to just decide who their “core” guys are and commit to that group for a while. They’re already the youngest team in the league so if they do draft top 10, you trade that pick to a cap strapped team knowing that player likely won’t help you the next few years anyway I do think Adams should go if for no other reason than that he’s making excuses rather than instilling confidence that he can fix it. Buffalo has a lot of assets in young players on reasonable deals. It’s worse for the fans to see you doing nothing than to make a move that doesn’t pan out in the end.

If Sabres are to be something, in my opinion the new ownership is the only way because current ownership is a disgrace to put it nicely.

This team has for years needed a leader and a superstar. Eichel was that and well we know what happened next
