In the last few years I have been dabbing as you say into Hebrew. I am 68 and struggle but I have started memorizing verses in Hebrew and absolutely love reciting them. It brings me joy to read it in a very elementary way. Tiny steps are ok for me. Wish I could share it with someone in person but I will persevere. It blesses me. It fascinates me to find out little facts about construction and roots.

I wish more pastors deeply embraced the Biblical Languages. Like the saying "reading a translation is like kissing your bride through a veil." They are missing the deeper meanings. Yet, many of the members are learning this and Greek and Aramaic! It's backward! I mean, stating the grammatical importance of a structure, etc. Maybe pointing out how synonymous parallelism is poetry. Etc. These days, if you go to one church, you've gone to them all! They all have music so loud that the flock can't hear themselves, let alone each other! It's like a rock concert rather than corporate worship. Then the pastor (or, whatever they call themselves) get's up, perhaps drops a Greek or Hebrew word to impress people, and pretty much says the same thing over and over: "Don't sin", "Be ready to give." Anyone can look up Greek and Hebrew words. I wish they would put more time into study and teaching. As my late pastor said "The local church is the classroom to learn about GOD" Pastors have become prima donnas who don't want to learn more and more without thinking they have arrived. The apostle Paul admitted that even he hadn't 'reached perfection" in Philippines. What makes these guys think they don't need to learn more? A pastor means a shepherd. A shepherd can't lead his sheep beyond where he is.
