Please excuse a couple of the edit mistakes. I just got this finished at 2am after some paperwork. Living the dream I tell you. Living the dream.

Did u manage to do the head bolt tightening without the use of a crows foot spanner attachment? As I thought there was 3 bolts under the rocker assembly which looked hidden or not accessible? 🤔

I have crows feet spanners but to be honest I've torqued the nuts down and then the rocker shaft bracket head nuts last, done this with great success on many BMC engines. But if in doubt stick to the manual and use crows feet

Good morning.I have bought a Norwegian Moda Tur 24 boat with a BMC 1800 engine.I will not sail until next year.How much can such an engine burn diesel per hour.The boat is 2000 kg.

That is a difficult question to ask. My advice is join BMC engines page on Facebook as there are so many variables to this.

Changing the headgasket of my bmc and your video was very helpful thank you :). Did you use a regular wire brush or a brass one for cleaning the head? Im too scared to damage it.
@dhcrouchmarineltd3049 Жыл бұрын
Its coated in brass. It is a gentle process near edges and you must hand scrape it clean to remove any high spots. You have a good attitude in being worried as damage is easily achieved in clumsy hands. But you want a very clean finish to ensure the new gasket will adhere across both flats of the head and block.

Hi Darren Enjoying your vlogs there is a lot to be learnt from them so thanks for passing the knowledge on . I am currently refitting my boat & building another in the workshop & have gleaned a lot from you. I have a BMC engine in my boat but don't know what size it is 1.5 or 1.8 do you know how I could find out ? Cheers Andy
@dhcrouchmarineltd30493 жыл бұрын
Location of injection pump helps. The 1.5 is fitted on the Starboard side into the block. The 1.8 has an oil filter in that spot and the Injection pump is mounted or the Starboard side but at the front on the timing gear plate.

Consequently thank you for your kind words and I am pleased you have gleaned something useful Makes this all worth the effort

I would do that on the side of a bench grinder. it will get them done in quick time. Then finish them on a stone if need be.

In principle I agree. That being said id want a precision bench grinder for that.

@@dhcrouchmarineltd3049 I have lost count of the engines I reconditioned. We always did that on the bench grinder wheel. I t was a job for a trainee. We were reconditioning at least 100 car engines per week. The BMC were very common back then.
