@@chriswatkeys9907 In some cases. If the drive member is spinning on the plate then yes. But usually its a slipping clutch. Is it both directions? If yes its likely drive plate or if not more likely clutch. Also make sure the propeller isn't spinning in the coupling.

@dhcrouchmarineltd3049 cheers Darren. Reverse does seem to be better. Reason I thought it might be the drive plate is that I'm pretty sure the prop hit something quite substantial in the water two days ago. For now we're limping it home to Birmingham and will then investigate further and likely give you a call in the new year if that's ok. Have a good Christmas with the family 👍

@@dhcrouchmarineltd3049 Wow! Thanks for the quick response. I am running 1/0 AWG (50mm2) a few feet: 1st from house bank to switch and 2nd another run from a starter to a Beta 38 with 120 Amp alternator. These two runs currently have a Blue Seas mega fuse block each. I have a 175A and a 250A mega fuse on hand. I didn't want to oversize them but would use these if that works. 50mm2 is about the 345amp range so use a fuse accordingly. This is to protect the cabling (Conductor) if you wish to fuse other devices specifically do so closer to the device. Starter motors draw a good 200-300 amps and more when they start to fail. Hope that helps

Possibly the sprung loaded pins that locate the position Atern-Neutral-Ahead There is a ring that slides back and forth which compresses the clutch pack, that might be getting stuck. Have you tried disengage at the gearbox by hand without the controller? If its ok its the cable or controller. If not the gearbox is culprit. Hope that helps

Very nice video. Nice and complete info but I still have a question for you. I'm on a sailboat with a Perkins 4.236 and have just had my nozzles done but I've since sailed on from the island where I had this done and I am now in a very "middle-of-nowhere" sort of place. Now I see that two of the injectors are leaking from the adjuster nut cap. I am pretty sure the shop did not replace the copper sealing washers on those. After watching your video, it seems I can attempt to fix this in the field. My question to you: Am I correct that there should be no harm done to the injector or the "pop" setting if I remove the injectors and torque down on the adjuster nut cap to 50psi as you did in the video in hopes to create a seal? I remember the man at the injector shop being very clear (although in a language I speak poorly!), not to touch the torque on the caps or the nozzle nut...but I think I trust you more.🙂
@dhcrouchmarineltd3049
@dhcrouchmarineltd3049 5 ай бұрын
The caps/nuts are just a loose thread and bite into the copper. Provided you dont drag the setting screw back you'll be fine. Use a blow torch to reanneal the copper or better still replace them. Check the faces of each surface as this stuff is getting very old. You may have to lap out some pitting. Use a new oil stone very fine if you need. Be sure its flat hence new.
@strongmonty

What are the odds that I could drag the set screw as you stated, assuming I'm just setting the adjuster nut cap to 50psi? Is this a real risk, and thus proper protocol to recheck all of the pop settings after the adjuster nut cap has been torqued down?

Loud clunking, depends how loud. If the drive plate is trashed and someone over advanced the idle then the box will thump into gear. The idle needs to be low for a smooth engagement. That being said if the cone has any burrs itll bind a bit.
