There is a missing VERY VITAL info in this video. And I would appreciate if you can check it out. The major reason Metabones released the BMPCC4K version is because on the regular m43 booster, when fast lenses like f1.4, are opened to the far end 1.4, the images are extremely soft. And Metabones claims this new speedbooster for BMPCC4k has solved that issue. I was really hoping you would open the lens entirely wide and compare side by side to see if this is true or just a marketing gimmick

Interesting, Viltrox MFT-EF adapter was also guilty of this (super soft image when lens fully open), that's why I returned it right after purchase

When the standard one is so close that you need to crop in that much to see a difference I can't see a need for the dedicated BMPCC4k one. The standard will also let you use EF lenses on the great Pana and Oly stills/hybrid cameras, so I'd argue versatility is a big factor.

I understand that the sensor on the BMPCC4k is a different thickness from a panasonic which affects how the different colours need to converge from the lens?

can you PLEASE do this test with a high end f1.4 lens! the udated booster was made specifically for under f2- at f2 and above there wont be a difference, if very very slight. I notice my f1.4 Zeiss Milvus 50mm getting very glowy and soft ONLY when I go under f1.8 so Im dying to see if this new one fixes those lenses to use at f1.4-1.8 which is where we want to use fast lenses!!

While I do think the last shot comparison had the most noticeable difference between the two I personally don't think there is enough of a difference to justify the dedicated version in my opinion. I think the versatility of the MFT version makes it the better over all value

When you put on a lens with an adapter., you are supposed to enter the focal length in the settings. I plan to use a Nikon 35mm full frame with a speedbooster on my X-T30 .What lens focal length do I enter? Do I have to change it due to speedbooster?

How's the vignetting at wider focal lenghts with the Sigma 18-35 + XL 0,64 BMPCC4K Speedbooster? I know that the Ultra 0,71 version is ment to be used with APSC-lenses (kind of), but the difference between Ultra and XL is only a factor of 0,9x (or 1,11x).. So, if there's vignetting at some point with the XL, I should be able to crop 1,11x in post to get the same result as with the Ultra adapter... 🧐 Please do a test for vignetting with the BMPCC4K XL adapter + Sigma 18-35.

Thanks for this! I've noticed that using a lens that should be pretty sharp in f1.4, like the Sigma art primes, are unusable wide open with the XL 0.64. Stopping down to f1.8 immediately makes the image usable. Have you tried the bmpcc4k speed booster with any 1.4 lenses, wide open?

YES! I notice the same- thank god. I only ever used it with f2 and above until i got a new 50mm zeiss milvus and was horrified once I tested it below 1.8. It cant be the lens, its the adapter. I need to see a test with this new one 0.64x UNDER f1.8! if you find any let me know! Im waiting to make a purchase- OR also waiting to see if they release a 0.58 or better booster for this camera which is rumoured- which would get it much closer even to full frame and be a dream!!

@@WillBinks It's funny how little I've heard people talking about this. Even f1.8 is totally unusable with many lenses. Strangely my Tamron 45mm 1.8 is the sharpest at 1.8, at least better than my Sigma 35mm 1.4 at 1.8. The cheaper Rokinon lenses look the worse, unusable under f2.8. Also, I find that my speedbooster adds tons of chromatic aberration. I love getting a wider field of view, but I'm kind of sick of speedboosters! I'm sure some copies of the metabones speedboosters are better than others, but I've found this a problem with my older ef to e-mount speedbooster as well.

Sauli Pillay damn- interesting as originally these were sold to male lenses sharper and reduce ca- and a lot of tests did show just that. Good to see others having issues though- I bet the booster really just needs to be made for the sensor as sensors always have different coatings/glass etc over them in mirrorless. This is why it’s so so unfortunate black magic didn’t release their 6k with an e mount and then metabones could make a perfect booster for it and you’d at least have some long term investment piece of mind. But we’re stuck with a m34rds sensor to boost (because who wants way sub s35 6k when you can have perfectly good 4k at a bigger fov!). There still is no perfect camera :(.

Eugene Koshkidko I believe he bought a second XL version for a reason. My only doubt left is it hard to live and deal with this vignette so you have to always zoom on sigma. Isn’t it just better to buy full frame alternative?

If you love to use the Sigma you should absolutely get the Ultra. If you are happy to use that one as is (without glass inside the adapter) and plan to use ff lenses in the future than an xl speedbooster makes sense.

JSFILMZ, I just got the new Ultra 0.71 BMPCC4K Speed Booster for my camera. Mounting it to my Smallrig setup was a bit of a pain but it's on and locked in and good to go. Can I just leave it on there, or do I have to dismount it every single time I put my camera away? Thanks for the content, and keep up the excellent work.

@@Jsfilmz Youre 100% wrong with that- youre not shooting at f1.1- the light coming in is 1.1- NOT the affect of aperature through the lens- IE light scattering etc. Dont use light calue for physical aperature- its the light scaterring thats the issue. Yur sigma 1.8 SHOULD be sharp as all lenses are on the origina until you go below REAL f1.8 in the lens. Really hope to see a real 1.4 lens review soon at f1.4-f1.8 (real aperature values for dof, not light abilities) thanks man!

for example- get a high end lens like a Zeiss milvus or classic or even a sigma art lens thats f1.4 and do a test with both adapters from f1.4-1.8. THAT would be amazing !! Im sure a ton of people are waiting to see that that are horrified with the results from their expensive 1.4 lenses haha

The new one is believed to have a longer tripod mount, so how does it fit with the Smallrig support designed for the original Metabones?

I contacted Smallrig about this. They showed me that if you mount the support upside down it will still work with the longer tripod mount of the new adapter.

When using a fast lens such as a 1.4 open all the way does the new booster show lower values such as 1.0 or does it stay at 1.4 like the regular mft speedbooster?

It should still say f1.4 which honestly is what you want. No one looks at f stops for light, they look at it to know about how much dof theyll have- its much better showing the actual value of the lens aperature vs how much light is coming in- its easy to see how much light by just looking at your screen...

Why is there no change in Field of View? Did you crop in with the XL 0.64x? Because it should have substential differences in FOV for what I know

umm they are both 0.64x they reduce the same amount of crop factor. 1.9x 0.64

Thanks a lot for this video.. I decided not to buy the new speed booster and also decided not to buy the new bmpcc6k as a statement that we are loyal costumers but the company wasn’t loyal to us... to release a better camera on specs and mount only 1 year after we bought the latest best camera is a spit in the eye of the costumer!!! It’s not an iPhone but a professional camera... and the feeling of releasing the new 6k is like your wife cheats you 😡

Well, they are actually different... dont forget the new one costs more. in my case for the price of new camera. i got myself bmpcc4k, cage, sigma 18-35 and an adapter. so thats a pretty good deal to me. and also i really dont need 6k raw. 4k raw is pleenty enough for me and i am not ready to deal with file sizes that are 2x more heavy than with 4k and also my work flow will suffer even more as i have an old computer and even with 4k i am suffering a bit, so if i would go with 6k i would also have upgrade my computer + buy all the extra things + hell lot more SSD's and i could give my pocket 4k back to the shop and buy a new 6k but i am keeping the 4k for a reason.

definitely understand but at the same time like ok said the price is different so its technically a different camera for different users. What i love about BMD is they have cameras for everyone from low hundreds of dollars to their top tier $6k. Which by the way can intercut with each other quite nicely.BMD is not even a decade old with camera making. This is what makes me very excited about their future cams.
