BMW 1 Series F20 114i N13 PCV Membrane Fix

Bad idea. Had the same problem, did the same fix, and I finally ended up changing the whole cover. Why ? Inside the valve cover there are TWO other small diaphragms. They WILL fail at about the same rate as the one you changed. The only way to repair them is to change the whole cover... If you do not repair them, you will overpressurize the bottom of the engine and you will end up ejecting the oil stick and doing dammage to seals :(

Hello, when you say "valve cover" are you referring to the cover of the diaphragm or the engine's valve cover which I assume is a slightly bigger job to remove? Thank you :)

@@jamesp1441 no, I mean the whole valve cover :D (the big plastic thing on top of the engine). It containes internal valvles wich are not replacable. The whole cover cost 500€.

I have BmW 114i at 60200 miles on the clock and have issue of constantly topping up engine oil every 2 maybe 3 weeks by a Quart but can’t seem to find where the leak is ? Garage also can’t find what can I do?

Hey there dude I've being doing a bunch of research on this topic as I believe my membrane has broken and I'm getting a leak exactly like yours. However, I feel the car actually has much better throttle response despite this problem. Is this valve on the crankcase breather? It seems to go directly to the intake elbow and nowhere else. To me this means that you could theoretically remove the valve completely and seal the plastic to ensure a vacuum and it wouldn't cause any issues and you'd be releasing crankcase pressure much more efficiently. I have a catch can so the oil into intake isn't an issue for me. Let me know what you think of the idea of removing this valve as if it's only for removing crank pressure via intake, then there's no chance of air rushing back down the wrong way making the valve only useful for collecting oil vapour.

The somewhat obvious objective with this generation is to have 200hp, but that it remains a 114i of 100hp on the papers. No problem with your insurance ? If all goes well then it's a bargain , the power of a golf gti without paying taxes, and in addition it's a RWD BMW 😍

@@bimmerbelgium2254 Fais attention, j'ai acheté une 116i de 2013 qu'un gars avait remapé. au lieu de 136cv j'ai 193. Alors oui ca roule bien mais il n'y a pas de reffroidisseur d'huile sur ces modèles là. Résultat, le joint de l'admission principale d'huile du Turbo est peté donc je perd de l'huile à ce niveau. Chiant à changer. Par contre sur les modèles plus récent il y a un reffroidisseur d'huile. ;)

I finally replaced the PCV valve. Removing the cap was a bitch .. i had to pluck it out with my hands eventually and broke it. The car feels better instantly. I guess the oil entering the intake and turbo is not good. Next is to clean the valve with CRC cleaner! Thanks for the video.

There are 2 more rubber membrains inside the valve cover. And I think it's meaningless to change only this one.

Strange....i only have one. If you don't change this one, the oil goes directly to you charge pipe into the engine.

@@Outpost1977 Yeah, but I talked about the 2 other small membranes that installed inside the valve cover and work as a part of the whole ventilation system. You have no acsess to them from above. These small membranes could be damaged also and it means that the changing of the big one is meaningless. The system won't work correctly anyways.

Klopt, maar ze is helemaal weg nu, kleinschalige mayonaise vorming deze tijd vant jaar kan je hebbe tijdens korte ritten. Dat is condens en geen koelvloeistof. Heb is paar keer stevig doorgetrokken achteraf en alles was verdampt
