BMW 1-Series Long Cranking problem fixed! 29F3 Error Code

This BMW 118i 2-Litre M-Sport was suffering from long cranking, sometimes it took 8 attempts to get it started. Diagnostics showed Error Code 29F3 from Carly diagnostics which pointed to the Low Pressure Fuel Sensor.
This video shows the complete procedure from start to finish including the diagnostics, disassembly, swapping the sensor and reassembly. Although this procedure is for the BMW E81 it is applicable for all BMW models with the Low Pressure Fuel Sensor which includes 1-Series, 3-Series, 5-Series, 6-Series, 7-Series and the X models with fault code 29F3.

Hi Thanks for the painful memories i had a 2.0 bMW about 7 years ago i went straight into a flood of water like your daughter it stalled in about 2ft of water tried to start it about 3or 4 times i didn’t know the consequences anyway got towed out i told the insurance company that it wasn’t my fault they offered me about £6500 the car was about 3 years old i refused they then agreed to repair the car which was a rebuild the engine about £8000 got the car back about 2 months later everything was perfect i eventually sold the car 2 years later for £7000 but what a stressful time dealing with the insurance company as they tried to say it was my fault anyway great video brought back some crazy memories. I know now Never try to start your BMW in ditched water as a mate of mins who worked for BMW said that when your car is submerged in water soon as you try to start the engine will just suck up the water like you explained .

I recently took that large plastic tray at 12:08 off my 1-series. I found that it's easier to put back together if you take the rubber seal and attach it to the tray. It's got a few notches where the rubber goes in. I managed to slide it in pretty easy that way.

Trying to diagnose a long crank issue with my 2008 118 m sport. Codes I'm seeing are 2EF7 map thermostat control, 30EA DeNox catalyst sulphurized, and A10A EWS4 timing chall resp fehler. Have you by any chance run into these codes before? Any tips to sort this long crank would be amazing

If you have replaced the high and low pressure fuel sensors then the next in the line is the fuel pressure - or lack of it when cold. Usually caused by the fuel pump (which has a one-way valve fitted)

Hello sorry hopefully u can help I have a 2004 545i that smokes. Changed out both Pcvs a year ago smoking stopped but its smoking again and have a jumpy rpm. Checked the PCvs both are good checked 4 spark plugs no oil or gas smell. You think it might be the OIL SEPARATOR?

The oil separators are part of the valve covers on the N62 engine - I clear them out here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j6rCh62fp5qrmdE It is well worth clearing them as I had problems after changine the PCV's around a year or so later

Thank you! Unfortunately my Son In Law sold his BMW for a Mazda, can't blame him, it did catch fire! The rest of us drive BMW's or Mini's and have done for over 30 years. I wouldn't know what to do with anything else!

it can be ur spark plugs as well..try to replace them..i was having too much issues with my battery and i had to replace it ,tomorrow i will replace my spark plugs .

No, more likely to be the MAF, cheap ones have this behaviour

Any advice for BMW 1 series 2012 116i starts shuts off starts again nd shuts off and won't start after for few hours will start fine.. no fault code...?

That will usually be the crankshaft sensor - they don't leave an error code!

My f30 was scan by dealer and its high pressure rail sensor. My f30 after start the engine suddenly after a few second or minute the engine turn off.sometimes lonh crank cannot start the engine.it is true the symthon of high pressure sensor fault

Yes, that can be a symptom of the high pressure sensor - but, it can be many things!

If the '95 has the M60 engine then probably not - If you have the M62 then engine, gearbox and ASC+T will be able to be diagnosed (same with INPA on an USB interface). For pre-OBDII cars an ADS interface is required along with a laptop with a real RS232 9-pin 'D' type socket.

Thanks Tim for the information, so this is the confusing part on my car I really do not know what kind of engine I have, in some paper work it says M60/2 with an engine number of 50681090, but this I know that the OBD is inside the engine and its not original adapter its round in design on which I had to by an adapter but since its a 1995 that's is the tough part in getting something that I can read diagnostic codes

@@TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation I changed, yesterday, according to you video and guide. It was very easy to do it watching this. Unfortunately I bought an used one thinking what are the odds to receive a bad one. And I seems nothing changed, the error is still there and the tester report stuck 6500hpa which , from what I read the sensor is not ok. Today I ordered a brand new one and I am waiting to receive it and to change it again. I will come back with result. Thank you for this video!
