Was looking forward to this , not disappointed. A gentle suggestion , I know your focussed on bike review but if you could add a bit of the personal i.e where your headed , maybe introduce your friend and tell us about the places your biking at. I mean its always nice to see the Big Guy interrupt your videos :) Regards

Regarding fuel capacity...on a trip across Wyoming on a Concours 14, I ran out of gas just before the gas station. When I filled it, all I could put in was 5.2 gallons. The capacity is supposed to be 5.8 gallons. Never assume that the manufacturers capacity is available.

Hi Scott, enjoy your reviews, and would agree that this class of bike is definitely the way to go. I currently own a Suzuki V Strom 1000 and a Ducati Scrambler 1100, enjoying both bikes, that’s until the virus came along. After watching your review and reading some of the comments, especially on Ducati, I feel I have to say that this is not the case with our local Ducati Dealer. I live in Northern Ireland, we only have the one dealer, so not mentioning any names, must say I can’t fault them. Suzuki dealer as well, same applies, that’s why I keep going back. Test rides, no problem, service, no problem, warranty, no problem, an all round bunch of good guys, as you say, 2 thumbs up👍👍. It is sad to hear of other dealers taking the attitude mentioned in review comments, totally unacceptable, and customers are quite right to walk away. Your reviews are excellent, and I’m looking forward to see how BMW 900xr fares long term and how it copes pillion wise, V Strom is coming 3 years old now. It might be a new V Strom again but the XR looks mighty tempting. Keep up the good work. Good job Scott👍

Love your videos Mate. super low key, no ego.... just great to the point, facts. thank you! BTW, I have a S1000XR (touring), a R1250R (daily rider) and a V4S (track) Did a big bike refresh over the last 18 months :-) Your video really helped me make a decision on the R1250R... love it

Good fun!!! Just really liking you getting into the reasons why you wanted that bike over the beast; it makes for a fascinating topic - once you've had a big power machine... how much is too much? Newer bikes now are making insane amounts of power; I have a Speed Triple RS which takes knocks for being "underpowered" even though it makes 150 HP... which to me, is insane power. I enjoy spirited rides and every now and again (when I safely can) letting it rip but it's just TOO much for the road to ride around wide open (by a HUGE margin). Your new bike begs the question - how much power do you really need or want? Your motto is perfect IMHO - "Nothing to Prove". I like the wise mature attitude - been there, done that, now in the 'goldilocks' range - just right.

When I'm bike buying, I do look at the competition within the segment but generally, you get on a certain bike and you just KNOW.

Here in Oz we're in lockdown so seeing you ride through the countryside Scott was truly great therapy!!!!🤪👍🏻 As to your "experience" with Ducati, this seems to be a common theme worldwide! Same here in Australia. Lack of customer care, inept service & is it just complacency???... A good mate of mine has ridden Ducati's for the last 20 years & he's constantly experienced issues such as I've described. Anyway a great review again & you're making it easier to decide this "should" be my next bike. Having said that, I'll now throw a spanner in the works. As I'm fortunate enough to have a varied stable of bikes to utilise for touring/trips, I have put a deposit on the new R18!!!😱 I absolutely love it! Not exactly made for canyon carving but mate it looks bloody awesome. A case of the heart telling the head to shut up!!!🤣 Stay safe & if possible keep these therapy sessions coming!!!🤪🤪🤪🤪👍🏻

Thank you Andrew. That is exactly why I did this day ride, to give the guys that can't ride something to watch. Even though I've personally received some criticism for doing a ride like this, and filming it, at this time. It is still legal in my state that I live in here in Germany, so I did it, it's that simple, but I still get the "naysayer" or "chicken little" that say that I should not be doing this, it's a bad example...bla bla bla. But the rules keep getting tighter and tighter, so by next week we'll probably be on total lock-down too. We shall see, I'm keepin' a positive out-look, we will get through this, we just have to wait 😒

Thank you for the different reviews of the F900XR, i had my bike Driving licence last month (at 55 years old) I was going for a Honda 650 R and after all your videos I changed my mind and I am a happy owner of a BMW F900XR (I bought it without drive test, its not easy to find a A2 F900XR for drive testing). For the time being I am not fully comfortable with the bike I find it a little bit heavy in very slow driving, but I am confident I will get used to it after few weeks of driving. I demoed a 750gs, 1000xr and the 900xr back to back. 900xr instantly more fun and it’s the one I bought. Loved the fit, twin and weight.

Couple years behind you, but it was between the 750gs and the 900xr. I'm never gonna do off road, not that the 750 is the best bike for that, but being a street dweller, and having the Autobahn, and some of the best twisties at my disposal, I'm getting the 900xr. Gonna go get it this coming week, and looking forward to many trips with it.

Good footage,nice riding and unobtrusive music,well done. I have owned big sports tourers like the Honda VFR1200 and currently the Triumph Sprint GT as I do high klm's on my rides but I did find that on a 800 klm day it does get fatiguing throwing a bike weighing 280 kg plus wet around the corners,I tried the Honda VFR800 Crossrunner but was a little underwhelmed by the lack of torque and it was unnecessarily heavy for a 800 cc.I test rode the BMW1000 XR but found it buzzy and busy for a serious tourer though it was very quick.I enjoyed the review on your bike and hopefully will get to test ride one soon.

This new GS looks great, also looks like a very balanced package.going to test ride one once the dealers are open again. buy the way, 30 years ago 100 HP motorcycle was impressive and at that time some certain countries wanted to restrict them to that 100 HP limit. My 1989 BMW K100 RS ABS produced 79 HP at the rear wheel. Times have changed.

Probably find 79hp at the wheel is around 100hp at the crank. My dad still goes on about how the Honda cbx750 was an animal. My BMW f800gs makes similar power now and is called boring

I have been enamored with the Tracer 900GT for quite a while now. Almost bought one last summer. I did not buy because I didn't have room in my garage for another bike. Well that and I am supposed to be saving for my retirement. Personally I am not too concerned that the Yamaha is older tech than the Beemer I have bikes with tech and bikes with no tech I love them all that is not a show stopper for me. I don'r ride on the edge enough to really notice the difference in chassis design. To a degree I like bikes a little rough around the edges anyways. I don't carry a pillion so I am not worried about the load carrying capacity. Having said all of that Scott, your videos and others I have watched and articles I have read are leading me to believe that the F900XR is the real deal. Not only that, IMO it is the best looking bike in the segment, by a long shot. I am sure it is a sharper handler than the Yamaha even if it is a little down on top end power. I have subsequently rearranged my garage and can now easily fit another bike in there. I have thrown the Beemer on the short list with the Yamaha.

Thanks for your view comes in handy as the tracer 900 is in my short list, which is all over the place right now. Luckily I don’t need to make a decision fast.. I also like your take on the multistrada, some of the dealers think that they around the only one around, I am sure that the company, in this case ducati, will not like the approach of the dealership. I think is important to know for the reselling of the bike ( maybe one day! ) and of course other ladies or gentlemans that, like me, may have problems on reaching with both fits the ground. I was impressed, in positive, for the autonomy range you can achieved with a 15.5 liter tank. I am a big fan of the Kawa versus 650. This XR seems to have the same attributes in more intense numbers. That is, more power, more payload, more suspension travel, more electronics. Seems very impressive. My question is how would this bike perform as a mild off roader, given its suspension travel, not withstanding the wheel size, and giving it 70/30 tyres. Thanks for your, always, detailed studies.

Hmm...I would not take this off-road. Light trail (very light) should not be a problem. As you can pretty much take any bike down gravel/improvised roads/trails but as soon as you say off-road then not really, I mean you can, I've taken my 1290SDR off-road and even got it stuck...that was not fun...but the bike is not made to do it.

@@NothingToProve I appreciate it is not ideal, but it is designed as a crossover type bike as described by BMW, as is the versys 650. Better than most road bikes in that regard, but yes one could choose one of the new triumph 900 models, they being more versatile for off-road. But for on road the XR seems greatly versatile and fun, with looks to match. Enjoy!

Really good looking bike and no other company beats the BMW TFT. Of course if you want to tour on the cheap get an NC750X DCT which will sip fuel compared to your BMW, but old design, only 54HP, very basic display and no electronics, but smooth shifting.

I also agree Tracer 900 GT needs a big update to catch up with F900XR, especially on technology and align its design with Tracer 700, etc. Grateful if you can do a review on 2020 Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX in the future (after the lockdown obviously) because if can’t wait for Yamaha’s update, I am considering to get either F900XR or Ninja 1000SX. Kindly advise if the Ninja’s nearly 240kg curb weight will be an issue just like you mentioned other “big dogs” have or its high torque output in relatively low rev can “overcome” its weight problem. Loved the scenery Scott, this is a perfect road for your twin bike, the sound is just great, loved it. When i saw the bike for the first time it disappointed me, but after your reviews i change my mind. Maybe in the future i will look for a new exhaust, well this is just me. Congratulations,

I'd like to see a demo of the anti-dive front suspension during hard braking, a water glass demo of vibration at idle and at speed, I like to hear your comments on center of gravity of of the bike and comments on the warranty. I think you made a great decision.

I just purchased a 2021 900XR TE. Whilst i like it, i was initially contemplating an 1200/50GS. But thought it would be to big for me. Aftwr getting used to a bigger bike in the (900XR) im seriously considering going trading it in for a GS 1250. Purely because of the 2 up capabilities over the 900XR.

looking at the Multi 950 on ducati.com, it seems to have similar specs but costs considerably more. it is a bigger looking bike with 10-15% more power but the internet price is 4-5 grand more. if money was not a consideration, i would choose the ducati only based on reading about it. the true test is to ride them both for a while. they both look good to me and I would be happy to have either. when i do get a new bike, this class of bike is what I would probably look for. i would not trade in my 690 Duke as that will always be my ride around town and abuse bike cause it is so fun. i just would like a more comfortable bike for long all day/weekend trips that does not suck to ride on a busy interstate. like the NTP guy, I am getting old (50) where comfort is becoming a top consideration.

Agree with your thoughts on the bike. I have a F700GS and owned a R1200GSLC. Those bikes handle well for fast 8 hour days but I really wanted a 17inch wheel machine (faster steering, better feel), that was also easy to ride as my other BMWs and as comfy. Took a test ride on the F900XR and BMW has absolutely nailed it as an easy bike to ride fast ALL DAY....except for the seat..- way too hard. I see you are upgrading to the comfort seat....I would be interested in your review of that. Some people go for the Wunderlich - maybe a price thing?

That is very good fuel economy. I'm sure it would drop with the luggage attached, but that's very good to know. I could squeeze 43 mpg out of my 2015 1200GS, and that was riding mostly at highway speeds.

New, fresh & nicely presented. Having seen your previous videos of when you first picked it up, because of the sunlight face on the side of the bike, I thought the side panels were black & it looked great. I actually thought that was an optional extra you ordered! Then the side or front shot of the bike showed them to be grey. Keep up your content & appreciate your honesty! 💯👍

I think you should have given the 900 GT Pro a go. It’s more of a road focused bike and that’s what you have gone with. Can’t knock the BMW 3 year warranty though :)

Good video. Very good information. Seems you got a nice deal for the bike. What you think about the fit and finish of the bike? Is it as good as the more expensive GS? Or do you notice that it is a cheaper bike?

Thank you Yuri, Yes, the fit/finish/quality is the same as the bigger GS, that was one of the reasons I purchased the bike, because you get a lot of value for a lot less money, as compared to the GS.

nice video as usual, for me what i would like to see in more detail is a small trip done with the turn by turn navigation,what does it show on the highway when 4 lanes are divided by 2 to the left and 2 to the right, with a tom tom you see the map clearly what is going on but what about wit the arrows, maybe a stupid question but is it clear? can you really use it or is it a gimmick and are you just going to use a phone on a mount or a tom tom in the end? what about the keyless ignition; do you think its worth it and is it any safe in your opinion?really liking your calm tone and way of making those videos, nice change from all those other pumped up and hyper luny tunes ;-)

Thank you for this informative review. By the way, the fuel consumption is surprisingly low! I did a test ride with the F900XR some days ago and must agree that it makes a lot of fun especially due to the agile chassis. It is worth to buy the quick shifter option. The blipper works even better than the upshifting function. For upshifting you need higher revs and open throttle. Really annoyed I was about the uncomfortable seat. Already after a few minutes I realized this edge that "bites" into the thigh as well the sharp step from driver to pillion seat. You don't have to drive long distances to realize it as something annoying. My question is, if the shape of your comfort seat fits better? Further the finding of neutral attracted negative attention, because at traffic lights I regularly stepped into second gear. Is this something common or maybe serial dispersion? The Yamaha Tracer 900 (GT) design is in my opinion not really outmoded but more in regard to technical details like the small TFT screen, the unavailable cornering ABS and dynamic traction control. The rest is still competitive to its rivals, especially thanks to the superb engine, that I am driving for years in my MT-09. Please go ahead with your entertaining F900XR reports!

Yes it is low, especially the way I was riding it for that entire take of gas, let's just say it was not slow. If I was riding a Tracer900 that way, it'd be much worse, BUT then that's why it has a bigger gas tank, it has to have a bigger tank to get the same range. Yes, when I get the comfort seat and side cases and engine spoiler, I'll make a video about how they work, look, feel...etc. But will have to wait a bit for the virus to calm down. Ride safe, Scott

Good review so far just one thing you could look at is riding with a pillion the bike looks a little short on videos but ticks ever other box. Sadly can't test ride bike in UK on lockdown. Can't even ride my own bike police asking where you're going .stay safe.

Great review as always! Was it a comfort seat you had mentioned in previous video? Have you already received it? I tried F900XR with a standard seat and it was not comfortable at all. Ride safe!

Hi Scott! Congrats for your channel. It is one of the most interesting, if not the most, in terms of analysing real pros & cons of a bike. I am considering now buying an R1250RS. I watched both reviews you did about this bike and I found them really really good. I found specially interesting when you explained the nitpickings you found in the second review. Thank for both reviews. I would like to give me your opinion about its sport and touring balance. Maybe is a bit more heavy than the XR but.., is still agile enough to make an “spirited fast paced ride”? How you would you consider it? 50% 50%? Or.., I don’t know... By the way, one of the things I love more in my actual bike (an F800S that I own since 14 years ago) is the belt..., since this experience I see chain as an anachronism..., but maybe in this time they have improved chains enough not to make a “daily” maintenance, I don’t know... Loads of reviews on the z1000sx unbelievable value but the xr has a much higher ride height and longer travel suspension and wide raised up handle bars.

I’ve got the 2019 z1000sx, in my opinion it’s the best of both worlds, panniers on it’s a great tourer, panniers off it’s literally a sports bike 😉

The s1000xr will be a lot more to insure almost 3x as much for me. and get awful mpg. And around town it's really hard to modulate the throttle. That bike really wants to go. Seen some really nice ones for £7,995 and I always wanted a s1000xr.

Hi, The answer is GS has a shaft and it's a biggest advantage between these two bikes especially when it comes to travel a long distances! Also, suspension is much smoother on GS due to a heavier weight. What do you think about it? I'd appriciate your answer! Thank you,

Thank you. Yes the SX has more power but it is heavier so the power & performance gains might not be so great once you add in the weight. I was just tired of middleweight sport/touring bikes that weight more than 230kg and this is at 235kg. I mean the 1290GT was already pushing it for me at 228kg and that has a lot more power than the SX but it is way more expensive.

First time to see your videos, nice job. Very thorough, I liked that. I've been riding Beemers (1150 GS & 1200 LT) for many years. How is the chain maintenance on this bike ? I haven't had one in sooo long, since my Triumph & Bultaco days.

Hey! Because of you I started to consider buying this bike. I can't find any reviews from passenger point of view. Can you take passenger for a ride and ask for her/his experience? Thank you Dan, Because I didn't like the other two colors, so it was more of a "which color is acceptable the most" choice. Red is ok, it's better than white or gold, gold looks good at first but then I think it would get old and I had the white XR in my garage for over a week for the "short term review" and it got old too...at least for me. But the choice is really a no brainer! Harley is not equal to the quality and the price especially a 10 year old bike!! I am still thinking about red! Best regards, Dan

Hey Scott I told you my decision was the F 900 R Or the 890 Duke Super scalpel but after this review I am thinking the BMW might be the best choice still haven’t gotten a review on the 890 however KTM did put out a short release video on it. So keep the reviews coming on your BMW it’s sounding better all the time I know you’ll come up with some more challenges for it. Personally I love the naked version better. I know you have the electronica suspension on yours maybe it’s possible that you could let us know how well that works on different road services and cornering thanks again for a great review I ask you before about your helmet I believe it’s a German manufactured helmet if you could give me more information on that I would like to look it up thanks again Scott you’re very thorough.

Yea, I was tempted with the 900 Rally Pro, now if I could just take the motor of the Tiger 900 and put it into the 900XR, that'd be an awesome bike! Triumph triple with German tech/engineering...😊😁👍👌

Hey Scott. Nice review as always. You know, the more I see of this bike, the less I like it. No offense to anyone, it's just me. I've never liked P-Twins anyway, But this one allegedly being Chinese-built is a non-starter for me. I can't put my finger on it, but this bike does nothing for me. I rode the F800GT and was not impressed at all. I realize this bike is probably a nice upgrade to that bike, and overall it's probably a nice little unit, but it still leaves me cold. It's also too small for me. I see how you are situated on the bike and I realize straight-away that I would never fit on the thing. I can't imagine a scenario where I would have any desire to replace my Trophy with this. But this thing would probably be a good option for many. To each their own, I suppose. Anyway, sounds like you are getting on with yours OK, and that is good! You need to ride a FJR if you want to know what real sport touring riding is all about! Why I don't own one of those is beyond me. Well, I do know why... I got a deal on the Trophy that I could not refuse! Now THAT is a trade I can see myself making.

I've ridden the F900 XR low version, (6'1") Cramped! but I really want to ride the Tiger 900 before deciding. You've ridden both and you purchased the BMW so that speaks well of the BMW. What was your deciding factor to go with the BMW over the Triumph?

TFT simplicity. Looks. On the road, the XR will out handle the Tiger without even trying. But that is because the Tiger is an adventure bike and the XR is a sport/tour bike. That's really what it came down to, road vs. off-road.

Both really, I mean the Rally has the extra suspension travel so it's higher but the GT drags pegs sooner than the Rally and the GT is for the road! So I don't get that. But I like the Rally better than the GT but the Rally is more for off-road and you can't get the electronic rear suspension on the Rally, only on the GT. As usual Triumph makes it complicated. So I passed on them both. I mean i like them but for an all rounder the XR just makes better sense.

Hey Scott! Glad to see you're enjoying the 900xr. Sorry to hear your experience with Ducati. Seems like the same issue here in Canada! A couple of guys I've spoke to at dealerships, left me with the impression that if I wasn't buying today, they weren't interested. Oh well, that makes it an easy choice to remove from the list. Dealership support is so important, and if I have to ride 400km round trip to get servicing done and deal with that attitude...that's a pass from me. Anyhoo..I would like to know if you e done any 2 up riding on the 900xr yet? If so, how did it handle o those sweet twisties? Cheers

Thank you David. It depends on the State here in Germany. Currently the State that I'm in has a restriction of only two bikes together, no more. But that will probably change soon cause there are too many ignoring that rule...the few always ruin it for every one else.

some people complain about the screen handle being on the right side, can't you just not dissasemble it and flip it over to the left side? maybe aftermarket left side arm in the future, it's only a plastic part.

I am thining about buying an f900xr, what do you think of the quickshifter. When i test rode it, it felt kind of clunky and not as smooth as other quickshifters. How does the comfort seat feel, the basic one is to hard for my taste. Overal great reviews, i subbed.

Yes, the QS is clunkly, on all BMW's the QS is that way unless it's the S1000RR/R/XR then it's great. Don't know about the comfort seat yet, still waiting for the plant in Berlin to get back up to speed...and yes the basic one IS too hard for me too. 😁 Ride safe, Scott

Yes, it's worse than the GS. The GS is much bigger in the front and every where else, so it will naturally have more protection. But for it's size, the wind protection is good.

I also just traded in a Superduke R--but for a Superduke GT. I'm thinking the GT is about between the SDR and this f900xr. Have you ridden at SD GT? Wanted short tour with pillion and INCLUDED side bags capability but can't completely give up that 1290 KTM torquer motor--which some say the GT is sweeter more mellow-- if it needs to be--than the SDR. What do you think? Thanks.

Ducati - Testing and buying motorcycles is pure joy compared to buying cars. Every dealership is fantastic and can't do enough to get you out testing their bikes .... except for Ducati. Without doubt the worst experience I had. Id did finally manage to arrange a ride of the Multistrada and it is worth the premium over Japanese and it looks awesome (especially compared to the BMW sorry). However I disliked the agricultural feel of the twin, but the dealer never got back to me despite promise to do so and chasing up via phone (and no they didn't know I was not impressed with the engine as they were so busy chatting between themselves and another customer and approaching closing time they clearly wanted to go home, so had all the details (me, current bike etc) and assured me they would get back. Sorry, should wait till I finish the video before posting (though 3 separate topics)

Very well done videos--great scenery, editing, and content. Can you explain what you mean by "twitchy"? Throttle response, handling? I test-rode a 900xr last week and found quite a bit of vibration above 6000 rpm. Does that bother you, or do you keep it under 6000 rpm where it's super smooth? What are you using for helmet speakers that allows you to hear your phone guidance and phone calls in your helmet? Thanks for taking the time to help me determine if this is the bike for me.

Thank you Michael, Yes, the vibs are there above 6k, only feel it on the autobahn above 160 ish kph so don't do that much so don't care (I usually do around 130-140). The helmet is a Schuberth R2 with the SC1 communication system in it...which is the basic Sena10 that you can buy and add to any helmet. So what I have to do is connect the phone (BMW Motorrad Connect app) and helmet to the bike in the "connection settings" and then when I turn on the bike it will see my phone and helmet automatically when ever I turn on the bike. Oh, and "twitchy" was when I was referring to the the turn in of a bike. It's a term that one usually uses for sport/naked bikes, in that they are so easy or take very little input to initiate a turn into a corner/curve. And that is why I was careful when I said "this is almost twitchy" because it took very little input into the handle bar to initiate a turn in, close to a naked bike level and less input for a sport/touring level bike. That can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you want to ride. I happen to like it since my previous bike was the 1290 Super Duke R, which was very twitchy, so I was used to putting very little input into the handle bar to initiate a turn in. But for sport/touring bikes, you want to be more comfortable and don't always want to be "careful" when droning out the miles on a bike, so I think that BMW hit a "sweet spot" here with this in that it's not too much twitchyness but enough to ride sporty when you want to and not too much so you can be comfortable & relaxed.

Thank you Gary, I've done some time on the autobahn with this and it does just fine. Although I got some buffeting when there was a cross-wind or passing a big truck. But I guess that is to be expected unless you are on a full size touring bike.

I have a similar question. I currently own a 2007 Ninja 650R. I'm very close to pulling the trigger and buy the 2020 Ninja 1000SX. I just cannot find a dealer here in Connecticut where I can get a test ride during this period, as everything is locked down. What are your thoughts on this bike? Did it even come up on your radar when you considered replacing the Super Duke?

The Ninja 1000sx is a sport tourer. The F900XR is more of an adventure sport tourer. The equivalent Kawasaki is the Versys1000. The Ninja 1000sx is in the class of the R1250RS.

The XR will out corner the RS without a thought and tour a little better than the RS (because the riding position is more relaxed on the XR, on the RS you are a little leaned forward and foot pegs are a little up and back as compared to the XR (because BMW was going for a more sporty ride and less touring with the RS)). Yes, off-road, true but the reason that I didn't go with the 850GS is it's weight and looks. It weights almost as much as a 1250GS (not GSA) so if I were to consider getting an 850GS I'd just go with the 1250GS. That's just mho 👍😁 BUT I have done all day at an off-road park on an 850GS and it was great! I does better than the 1250GS/GSA in off-road! But not as good as the 1250 on-road. Ride safe, Scott

Buzz is only in the upper limit of the rev-range. Where we do normal riding, almost non-existent.

Please give us some thoughts on the front un-adjustable suspension on worse roads than the lovely smooth roads you seem to have there in Germany. I had a TDM 900 for years and loved it. So for obvious resons im thinking of buying 900XR but the front suspension is my concern.

I am thinking that the R 1250 RS might be more of what I am looking for and might be better for 2 up riding than this 900 XR? I am a bigger guy. Also I am seeing 2018 s 1000 XRs here in the state prices drop since the 2020 model came out. under 11k USD for a 1000XR with low miles sounds like a deal to me also over this 900 XR new. Put it in rain mode for easier going when sight seeing?

Sure, it's great for everyone, it really is that easy to ride. That is one of the reasons I made it my "daily ride". I don't have to think when I ride it. I just enjoy being out in the environment. And I think that is the point that BMW wanted to make when they made this. Forget about the bike and enjoy the ride.

I heard a throw-away remark from a journalist at the launch of the 900XR in Spain say that BMW had remarked you got 105 ponies (your technical term!) only if you put 98 octane fuel in the bike. It could however be slightly under 100 bhp if you put in the cheap stuff! Any thoughts on the veracity of this?

Hello, The engine is the best parallel twin I've ridden in the middleweights...except for the MT-07 is a little better sound...so BMW changed the firing order and changed the crank shaft to give it more character (just like Yamaha, Honda, KTM...etc.) and in turn it has more torque lower in the rev-range. I noticed with the past 700-750-800-850 BMW's they were lacking in this area, this one is much better and I can actually leave the bike in a higher gear and not have to down shift and just twist the throttle and "lug" my way out of a corner. In other words I can be lazy and not shift if I don't want too 😁 The wind screen is good and for weekend/week long trips it's just fine. Only buffeting is on highway with a cross wind (or passing big trucks). If I were to do longer trips than that, I think I'd look for an after market bigger screen but for now this is enough for me. Yea, I've been to both Ducati dealers near me (several times, 3 times at one and 5 times at the other) and neither is interested in a motorcyclist unless you have money hanging out of your pockets. Especially if you show up on a cheap Suzuki or Yamaha, or in my case a BMW F900XR, and actually the sales guys at one of the Ducati dealers made fun of my bike and actually had the balls to criticize it, right to my face, saying "they are not going to sell well and I've heard absolutely nothing about them". I thought well if you hard nothing about them how do you know they won't sell. Sad, just sad. All about money and not about motorcycle riders and the motorcycling community. I will not go back to either of those dealers, the experience left a bitter taste in my mouth.

Question: how is the moto for slow speed (15-25mph) and tight/quick maneuvering and handling? I’m using motos for pacing and officiating bicycle races and the size of the new F900XR is looking very interesting.

It has excellent low speed manners, that is one of the things that impressed me about it.
