BMW 130i exhaust sound 135i retrofit backbox

Sounds nice. I’ve deleted my secondary cats on my E46 and will be deleting the resonator soon aswell as it’s affecting my exhaust still.

Sounds really great. I've modded my standard backbox and still have the resonator. Thinking of replacing the resonator as well,. Do you think it is too loud or just perfect?

Thanks, well for me its just perfect now...loud above 3500 rpm, screaming above 5000 rpm , but when at constant speed on highway ,say 60-70 mph it is very quiet .... Also with the resonator delete the pops and bangs are much more clear! so i think with the res delete you get everything out of your modded backbox!!! I love it! :-)

Hey Mark, been reading some threads on baby bmw as well as your vids. I have my 130i booked into an exhaust shop in 2 days. Your car sounds great but I'm not sure how much I love the pops and bangs! If I do the 135i backbox without the Y pipe will it pop less? Also if money was no object would you get an aftermarket set-up instead? If so which one? (eisenmann, magnaflow etc). I'd imagine aftermarket would be much lighter? Thanks mate

hey, yes if you don't do the resonator/midbox delete the pops and bangs will be much less...but it will also be much less loud...i also did the 'golf tee mod' ... so the backbox valve is open at all times! as i dont use my car as a daily driver,its set up purely for fun!.... going with the 135i backbox option is by far the cheapest option to get a great sound (yes you can do a nbackbox delete,but that is racingcar loud...so no go!) and is very simular compaired to an performance backbox! i would go with a full custom exhaust if it wasn't so expensive...but never say never... if i find a good deal... who knows!! hahahha....

@@bmw-130i Sorry one last question! My local shop thinks it would be worth modding my 130i backbox. Do you know if that would get similar results to the 135i backbox?

@@kingcrumpet no worries... yes it would be simular,but yhe soumd will be less deep,more raspier...but think you can always try it ? Wouldnt cost the world ...and if you dont like it ,you can go for the other option. And sell your original box...here in holland many wiyh 118i or 120i fit the original 130i boxes, for bit more soumd and better looks...i solld mine in a few minutes via a bmw forum 💪

hey,no also mid muffler(resonator/midbox) is gone...and replaced with y-pipe to connect the 2 exhaust pipes into one!

Sure, its an bmw e82 135i muffler/backbox , and a mid silencer/resonator delete and replqced with an Y-pipe. So very easy to modify!! 💪😎

@@bmw-130i the sound is really amazing, if I get a 135i exhaust to my 130i and get a Y-Pipe, you think that is enough to make it sound as good as yours? And also which Y-pipe did you get? Thanks!

Did the same recently. The 135i muffler did not fit as well as I hoped unfortunately. But I isolated the resonator and mounted the 135 muffler and disabled the valve. Sounds awesome! The pops and bangs are nice. Maybe I'll try to mount a magnet switch so I can control the valve.

good man!!! yeah the muffler has slightly different brackets than the 130i muffler...correct!!! yeah sounds good eh?... did you drive full throttle and windows open thru a tunnel yet??.... you should!! ;-)

@@opskier2 Yes and no. Stock resonator, but it is modded to a straightpipe. Still looks 100% like original

nope,it is the original stock 135i e82 backbox.

@@lukehopkirk yeah do it...makes the car come alive!!;-) yeah think you should search for a performance backbox bespoke for the e90...this one will be very difficult if not impossible to fit on a 3 series...but am sure there are options available out there!

I've got a 125i coupe 2008 and im struggling to find out what is best for exhaust noise, the only problem with delete's and such is the mot...would this make it fail? And not sure if the exhaust system is different

hi, i live in Holland and here its NOT a mot fail... no idea how this is in other countries!! exhaust system is the same,so you could easyly do what i did(and many others)... i suggest contacting a local exhaust show to know if you can get away with this when mot comes??...

Yes ofcourse! First do a resonator(mid silencer)delete and replace it with a Y-pipe ,then replace the standard backbox with a backbox from a bmw e82 135i .... thats it !

have you heard of someone putting a 135i resonator delete? For me, the res delete is too much, but i wish something in between, i already put the 135i muffler and sounds great, but a little bit more would be great without deleting the res. Thanks :)

Hi,yeah for me the 135i muffler in combi with the res delete is perfect...but thats me!! Have you opened the muffler valve already? There is a vacuum hose leading towards the muffler,wich you can disconnect and put a plug in the hose. This will set the muffler flap open at all times!

​@@bmw-130i Ughh I miss typed, I meant if you heard of someone putting a 135i resonator on their 130i, instead of just deleting it. But well. I just got a cheap resonator from a 135i n55. It has less perforations than our original 130i, so Ill put it, and maybe I post a video for comparisons, and yes, i have the valve always open :P

Hi,no drone , at normal highway speeds very quiet, loud enough at full throttle...and that is with valve open, with closed valve even more quiet.
