Working on a BMW with chancletas on... Priceless! You are the man... I'd be afraid to work on a car with house sandals on.

Thanks for the video. Of all the videos that I've watched...your's is the only one that even comes close to showing how to remove and insert the brake sensor. I get that it doesn't seem to be a big deal...but it's still nice to know before you start the job.

Did you open the brake fluid cap to make room for the fluid you're pushing back through the lines when compressing the piston?
@oscars-autorepair3236
@oscars-autorepair3236 8 жыл бұрын
yes, i forgot to show that step. you definitely want to open the brake fluid cap so that your fluid wont leak out all over your driveway.

do you need to change the brake pad sensor as well ? that's what I have heard
@oscars-autorepair3236

Yes, you do have to change the brake pad sensor. I did not change it on this video and the brake wear sensor did not reset so i had to buy the brake wear sensor to replace the old ones.

It's also a good idea to drain some brake fluid of the reservoir before hand..

Thanks for this informative video. Question: do you have to open the cover lid of the brake fluid reservoir before beginning this job? I assume the retraction of the piston will push the brake fluid up the system.

Great question, yes it is highly recommend to open the cover lid from the brake reservoir and make sure you put a rag or paper towel around the reservoir to keep fluid from dripping on your car as the fluid will damage your interior paint.

...... a Wise Technician either ASE Certified in brakes or not.. would OPEN the bleeder valve as you compress the piston back into the caliper.. & close it as soon as u let off pressure as to not suck in air into the system unless you want to blow your master cylinder & its seals. But all in all it was a pretty good video for and by a beginner do it yourselfer

Nah, don't agree, that's bad advice... Nick H. I would just take the cap off the brake fluid reservoir and monitor the brake fluid as it rises when pushing back the brake caliper piston, which will happen. If necessary, drain some (not all) brake fluid from the reservoir with a turkey baster into empty bottle if the brake fluid rises too close to the top of the reservoir. The only time you should open the bleeder valve is to bleed the brakes, if/when necessary. If its an older car, you can run the risk of breaking the bleeder valve when trying to open it to release some brake fluid, too risky. Ask how I know: I'll admit, rookie mistake. Older car, one of 4 bleeder valves stuck, wiggled back and forth, sprayed with some WD-40, wouldn't budge, ended up braking valve, had to replace brake caliper as it ended up leaking. Luckily, brake caliper replacement wasn't too expensive, but afterwards, it was necessary to bleed all 4 brake calipers. The cars braking system worked great after this mishap. So it ended well nonetheless...

At the 5:40 mark, you can buy a 2 pack of those "S" metal hooks at Dollar Tree for one dollar; its a seasonal thing so they are available early spring, in the flower and springtime section of the store. Online, they sell for about 9 to 10 bucks. I recently used the "s" hook to do a brake job and they are sturdy, not cheap, although made in china.
