How to make sure to get the little plastic tip with a small o-ring into the hole? I changed oil and filter for the first time today, but not really sure if the tip went into the hole.

If the filter screwed in the tip went into the hole. It’s designed in a way that as you turn the filter it won’t actually start threading in until it drops into that small hole.

@@friendlymechanic9778 Thanks! I feel much better now. Another KZbinr says to install the filter element first such that you can feel if the tip gets into the small hole, then to install the filter cap.

I think I have seen that same video you are talking about. But it’s okay to do it this way as well. It’s how every BMW tech does it. The service manual recommends installing the filter into the cap first so you hear the audible click. 👍🏼

I’m referring the service log in the car status menu. I have an X3 (G01). Service logs are now in the computer and not in a book anymore. Thanks.

Why is managold covered by oil, does it cracked or ?

The oil on the intake manifold has some oil on it from previous oil changes. When the filter is removed too fast oil can drip onto the surrounding area. This Intake manifold is not known to crack.
