Most everyone I know who bought a BMW, or Mercedes, or VW, or Audi, after the first or second one they said "Never again!". The exceptions were people who did not have to pay for it because it was their employer who gave them a company owned/leased car to use. Then they did not care about the cost. I was talking to a guy who parks his X5 next to me where I live. After 60,000 miles he was having gasket and seal failures. Oil leaking everywhere. The garage owner was telling him to not park in the garage like this. This was costing him some thousands of dollars.

About repairs, it’s got the 4 year bumper to bumper warranty which can be extended to about 150k miles for about $3k. It’s also comes with free maintenance for 3 years too. Basically there no pit of pocket expense u til you’re out of warranty. Most cars that have problems these days are very expensive to repair or fix after the warranty. Even the Japanese and Korean SUV types are expensive and if loaded luxury models. So the bottom line is you simply trade or sell after 4 years OR get an extended warranty if you love it. If this don’t like the expense then get a lower price easier to maintain model. Meanwhile it s nice to have options.

We bought a 2015 BMW 335 xi new. The only repair we had was to replace a headlight (450.00) Ouch ! This is the best auto I have ever. I worked for FOMOCO 18 years as an engineer. While there I went through a lot of cars. The second best car I had was a 1990 Mustang LX 5 liter V8 with a 5 speed manual transmission. By the way the BMW is much faster than the Mustang. I replaced the run flat tires with 235/ 45/18 Michelin all season tires The new tires softened the ride and reduced the road noise. I change the engine oil every 3000 miles and burn Shell premium fuel.

Moral or scottys story. Dont buy a car you cant afford. Scotty is a very knowledgeable fella, a great guy and makes some decent content. This video is good for 90% of the people that want a reliable, boring whip that will last 300,000 miles. Personally i would buy the Beemer every time over a toyota. That is just my preference. I am a poor old hillbilly that can do nearly all my own repairs. Life is to short to drive the same boring car for 300,000 miles, dear Gawd!!! Give me a german car good for 50-60,000 and trade it in for a new one!! I will drive it like i stole it and have a blast doing it. Depreciation? sure, who cares? I dont!!!

Problematic X5's must be an American thing. I bought an X5 30d in 2016 and it's now done 85,000km. It's my daily driver with the occasional country road trip and regular maintenance items aside, not a single mechanical thing has failed on it. The only part that broke was the latch on the glove compartment. I bought a new one on ebay for $40. Only my opinion, but as with any vehicle, if you drive them with care and don't beat up on them too much, they will last a long time. If you hammer the hell out of them, throw them around corners and basically drive it like you just stole it, then yeah, things are gonna break. Oh, by the way, they are not German built. They come from Greer, SC. 🤣
