Top review - the effort that goes into these car reviews on this channel is jaw dropping. Not only from the time on the ground by the presenters but i'd imagine it's a crazy amount of time in the reviewing the footage and editing! Pay no attention to the negative comments about 1080p 60fps "only" uploaded content in 2020. You are appealing to the widest audience with this standard. Probably less than 5% of the world have a 4k display and the necessary hardware to play back 4k 60fps without frames dropped or stuttering, 1080p, 60fps will play back fine on all decent smartphones, laptops and cpu's regardless of whether it is hardware or software accelerated where as 4k will not. Thumbs up, class leading car channel.

I know it’s difficult but that’s why catchphrases should not be dependent on technology.. They get obsolete very quickly. Imagine a catchphrase on the lines of.. “Free up your telephone line and keep it free for your dial up connection to watch our latest episode“ Who’s going to understand this?? These methods are obsolete now! Nobody uploads anything less than Full HD, less than full screen these days.. Plus with varying screen size ratios, full screen is a debatable topic. Full length is the only portion that can still be relevant as channels often upload contents with different lengths..

If you try and play back youtube 2160p content on anything without hardware acceleration in the world it will stutter. Only systems with cpu's less than 3 or 4 years old (I think) support hardware acceleration for this amount of processing.... GPU's can help if browser is gpu hardware accelerated. 1080p 60fps is the best balance to make sure smartphones, laptops and desktops no matter where in the world can play back without any stuttering or frames dropped. They can film with a 4k 60fps camera and grab that amount of detail but still downscaled to 1080p 60fps to keep the detail whilst lowering resolution. This is the correct choice from a technical standpoint imo... not a criticism to the original comment just an observation.

In Germany and most other European countries it is allowed to cross the stop line at the red light (carefully) to make way for emergency vehicles. In the Netherlands most emergency vehicles have a system implemented that switch the traffic lights ahead of their route to green, so that the traffic flow is more fluent and it is easier and much safer (especially at junctions) for emergency vehicles to get around.

Great review, Thomas, as always! I would love to see diesel particulate filters mentioned in these reviews - how long they can go between needing to regenerate etc. I think it's an important consideration when you don't necessarily go on long journeys at motorway speeds on a regular basis. Normally, my Vauxhall Insignia 2.0 CDTi gets several hours on the motorway every week, but when I was doing lots of short trips for two weeks with nothing longer in between, I started to get very nervous about the DPF.

Thomas, as always great and detailed review!! Nice review of this BMW 320d and all previous new 3 series. I do agree that 330e could be the best choice and 330i good for driving fun apart fro M340 or m3, but 320d somehow summarizes from all of these thought have insane price. Otherwise it’s a good package.

Very, very good review - exactly what I wanted to know - how it is to drive as a normal daily driver. Also good tips for the seats and ride comfort (also very important for me). Only question I have is - what is the difference in feel between the normal Steptronic gearbox and the Sport Automatic.

Here in U.S., the 330i, 330xi, and 340i/340iM are the only new 3 series models available for now. Even with the most basic 330i with some options plus taxes and other charges, the 330i can cost in between USD 45,000-55,000.

I bought the 330i with all extras apart from the sunroof and laser lights for pretty ~£40k on PCP (a lease). Will have to pay out roughly £25k over 4 years so a pretty good deal in my view (£500 per month).

Great video! I’d like to ask you about the M suspension, is this so stiff? I appreciate dynamic, but also confort. Is the base suspension sporty enough to have fun in corners? Thank you very much!

The base suspension is too soft. It is not fun in corners - the front rolls too much so the inside tyre is losing grip...and the back end feels to soft when you accelerate out of a corner, it causes even more roll and lift of the inside front. The M-Sport feels like a different car. Cornering roll is less and acceleration gives a feeling that front and rear work together. I don't think the M-Sport suspension is too stiff. I prefer it to the adaptive, because it has the best balance. The adaptive is too soft or too stiff :-)

I consistently get a consumption figure between 4,4 and 4,6l/100km - depending on traffic conditions - in my 2017 F30 320d aut. driving 120km a day. Roughly 110 of these are on motorway with a 120km/h speed limit. When reviewing a diesel you should take this into consideration and do a nice long stretch on the motorway.. That is the yardstick you should use when judging a diesel. But maybe you also did that and you’re just a Thomas Bleifuß (lead foot in German) 😋

Drove the 330i, great car but the electric powersteering is very nervous and the engine sound over the speakers is just cheap on such an expensive car. There was also a noticeable wind noise around the mirrors. I expected more from the new 3-series. Power was really impressive from the 2.0 turbo engine and the automatic transmission is perfect, infotainment and material use is good.

Interesanter. But I hope the 330e will be introduced in my market for me to test drive back to back with the 330i which I have driven. Until then, I can't decide which as I am concerned about the significant extra weight in the 330e compromising the handling agility. Ps. Excellent car, but extremely expensive, with every new generation the car has undoubtedly improved but the bill has in recent generatiosn sky rocketed. Yes, Audi and Mercedes, the only competitors this brand has, have followed the same price policy, but that is hardly a consolation. German cars for german salaries, the rest of the people, except americans (with much better value, i.e. prices) will continue dreaming of them. Great Review. Many thanks. I know I'm a little late to the plot, but there's always debate about driving across a red light, when an emergency vehicle approaches. In the UK it is not legal to cross a red light unless directed to do so by a uniformed police officer. People do cross 'red', and kudos to them to try help to save lives, but not strictly legal. I would try and help an emergency vehicle if I could. And also UK Highway Code Rule 219 states: ...take appropriate action to let it pass, while complying with all traffic signs. German law might be different, and anyway I agree with Thomas.

Redarding steering complaints, I understand the MSport version are all equipped with what they call "progressive" steering... could it be the standard set-up is better at lower streering angles bacasuse it's not progressive?

I owned an M-Sport BMW F30 for three years and the G20 just looks wrong despite I am happy my F30 is gone now. The proportions all grew in the wrong places: Sideprofile shot shows how much longer the bonnet is whilst the rear is even shorter and the trunk was already a mess with the F30 (WAY too small, couldn't even get two moving boxes in without folding the rear seats which obviously comes with additional costs in the premium segment, and even with those the space is awesomely low). Front end is even worse than the sideview, it looks very "wannabe Japanese" and could very well be from a Toyota or Lexus with their horrible headlights. The M-Sport package is in not a single way as agressive as on the older F30 or even the E90. For the first time ever with a 3 Series I prefer the stock exterior package over the M-Sport. Rear end is better through I would have loved those lights on the old model for a more agressive overall look. However, the taillights looks nice but don't work with the headlights on the same car. To name something positive: The interior is much more modern than the old one and I would have liked them in the F30 way more than what I used to have despite I had the full Alcantara M-Package. BMWs iDrive and HUD are still king of the market no matter how hard Audi and Merc will try, BMWs systems are way more intuitive and much faster in everyday use.

"Stiff" bolstering on the driver's seat is meant to give the driver genuine road feedback feeling. You are supposed to bond with that car. Emotionally bonding as well as intuitive bonding. Feedback is the most important factor in sport-racing experience. You are supposed to feel the slight vibrations of the car and the road. Sort of like a human "sixth sense" sensation of the driver...

Ich weiß nicht warum Thomas immer das „Sofa“ erwähnt, aber egal. Ich bin neulich den 3er gefahren. Dachte mir auch, daß er sich nicht so agil fährt wie überall geschrieben wird. Okay vielleicht war ich zu langsam unterwegs. Aber mit 1,7 Tonnen ist er halt kein Leichtgewicht. Und der Fahrkomfort ist für ein neues Auto meiner Meinung nach nicht auf dem Stand der Technik. @@yasinyucedag6141 I've tried the 330e both with and without the adaptive suspension. After every review on KZbin saying how amazing it is I was very underwhelmed as the difference was barely noticeable. With 18" wheels and no runflat tires the standard suspension is fine for me.

Your opinion is very limited by internal struggles to push technology which has not yet become significant. Not to mention perfect at it’s peak like BMW’s diesel tech which is without a doubt the best in the world. This is a fact, since you fancy yourself as a car enthusiast or journalist who knows something about cars especially BMW since you are also German national. Well that’s why you should speak the truth and teach people and your spectators what’s what. Not push your insignificant little opinion and have people believe the wrong thing.
